Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

The second entry in Feather's Matchmaker trilogy (following The Bachelor List) is a charming romp through 19th-century London featuring the Duncan sisters, who are trying to hold their family together financially by running a matchmaking service and producing the suffragist scandal sheet The Mayfair Lady. When the paper is sued for libel, Prudence Duncan enlists the help of fierce barrister Sir Gideon Malvern. Gideon is convinced their case is hopeless, but he can't deny the attraction he feels for stubborn, strong-willed Prue. Because she can't afford his fees, Gideon agrees to argue the case if she finds him a suitable bride, but before long, Gideon finds himself as involved with Prue as he is with the Mayfair Lady case. Readers may be surprised by the setting, which is unusual for historical romances; here the automobile and the telephone have already been invented. One amusing scene centers on a drive to the country, which takes three hours in Gideon's car (moving at its top speed of 20 miles an hour). Though this is Prue's story, both Constance and Chastity ably carry their portions of the novel, which will ensure that readers snap up the other two books in the series (each focusing on a sister and conveniently appearing in consecutive months).

From Booklist

The second installment in Feather's trilogy about the Duncan sisters focuses on Prudence, the most practical of the three. The paper that the sisters publish to maintain their aristocratic lifestyle in early twentieth-century London is being sued for libel by the very man who caused their economic downturn, and Prudence has approached the best lawyer their nonexistent funds can buy. Tenacious barrister Sir Gideon Malvern almost refuses the case until he decides that Prudence herself is a challenge worth taking. She sees Gideon as a disagreeable means to win the suit and offers to find him a bride in exchange for his services. Amused, he agrees. While Prudence tries to figure out what kind of woman will interest the divorced father of a 10-year-old daughter, Gideon tries to discern what kind of woman Prudence really is behind her prim facade. Interesting characters keep the sensual story lively, proving once again why Feather is so very popular. Readers will eagerly anticipate the adventures of the third Duncan sister. Patty Engelmann

3.0 out of 5 stars Better than Bachelor List, Jan 21 2007
By Empy "Book Worm" (Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
I didn't particularly like The Bachelor's List. I'll say that now, so you'll understand why it's important that I actually liked Bride Hunt. It'll never be among my favorites, but this book was easy enough to read and relatively interesting.

Prue and Gideon quickly proved an explosive pair. I don't know that I found them especially well suited, but their arguments were interesting. Gideon's daughter could have been a more important character and Lord Duncan (Prue's father) could have been very much expanded on. The other sisters were present through nearly the entire novel, yet were pointless for the most part. They had little or nothing to do with anything that was happening. Con seemed to be 'Hi, remember me? I was the first book' while Chas was simply there to say 'Keep reading! There's one book left'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gideon and Prudence-SPOILERS, May 31 2004
By Amanda Brooks (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Favorite scene with Prudence-
Going through her dad's private stuff at the bank to find evidence.

Favorite scene with Gideon-
When Prudence returns to his chambers to confront him for his attitude towards her
and the case.

Together-
Their first dinner together at the supper club.

What did you like about Prudence-
Her stubborness and strength. Her smarts. She was the logical one. She dug deep
to help her father.

What didn't you like about Prudence-
Expected Gideon to make his ex feel welcomed. Why would she want him to treat
her with kindness after she left him?

What did you like about Gideon-
Falling for Prudence. He was a brilliant lawyer.

What didn't you like about Gideon-
I didn't like that he didn't like talking about certain things and shut Prudence out.
Things seemed to be only on his terms.

4.0 out of 5 stars Found this entertaining!, May 21 2004
By A Customer
I was in an airport and picked up The Bride Hunt. I found it a very enjoyable read - plot is predictable, but a few twists kept me interested.
