Product Description

Terry Deary and Martin Brown's brilliant books about the nastiest periods in history have now - with the help of some astounding actors - been transformed into a series of audio extravaganzas. Featuring new, extra material not found anywhere in the books, these sound spectaculars are just as thrilling and spilling, funny and fast as their printed counterparts. Horrible Histories are guaranteed to bring you history with the nasty bits left in! The Rotten Romans features beastly battles, deadly doctoring and marvellous myths - and you can even find out how to tell the future using a dead chicken! It's packed with quizzes, sketches, music and jokes, as well as mini-dramas and real life re-enactments - telling you the kind of foul facts which just aren't available from a classroom education!

Ingram

A fact-filled treasury on ancient Rome celebrates the lesser-known daily realities of the period, such as what the Britons used to make their hair spiky and why rich Romans needed vomitoriums. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but questionable for historical accuracy, July 9 2004
By "dafney" (Crown City, Ohio USA) - See all my reviews
I was very excited when I first about the "Horrible Histories" series. But, after reading the "Rotten Romans," I question the historic accuracy of the series. I do not claim to be an expert on Romans, but I have taught the topic for 8+ years (although I'm sure Mr. Deary would not consider me anything but an morron considering his references to teachers in this book)and I have found some incorrect items, example: the Romans used the "thumbs down" for life and the "thumbs up" for death not the reverse, as Mr. Deary says in the book. Read it for fun not for historical research.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good book with good jokes., Jun 4 2002
By A Customer
The Rotten Romans has very good jokes. It has poems written by Roman poets in it. It has got all about the Celts and Roman feasts. It is beautifully written. It also has amazing facts about Boudicca and Roman baths.

5.0 out of 5 stars Horrible Histories, April 20 2002
By D Ferris (Wichita, KS United States) - See all my reviews
This books are wonderful. They make learning history fun and cool. It combines jokes, historical facts and funny information in a great easy-to-read package. My 4th grader loves the whole series. Both reluctant readers and history lovers will enjoy the breezy way history is told in these books. Ideal for 3rd-5th graders and even middle school students. Great as gifts or for a classroom. Too bad all history books aren't this fun!
