Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Shatner's second novel, like his first ( Tekwar ), is a competent but predictable detective thriller played before a standard SF backdrop. Private eye Jake Cardigan narrowly escapes an assassination attempt. It seems someone is holding a grudge for Cardigan's part in destroying a major Tek cartel, and as he races to learn who has it in for him, Cardigan discovers an even darker plot: someone has released a deadly viral plague in San Franciso, which threatens his son and ex-wife. Bodies drop on all sides as the plot hurtles toward its inevitable climax, and Cardigan is repeatedly rescued from extinction by the convenient arrival of old friends, who vanish as soon as their job is done. The novel is filled with stock characters, from the antagonistic police chief determined to "get something" on Cardigan to the persistent and intelligent female reporter whom the tough-guy detectives are always trying to ditch. Shatner's Greater Los Angeles of 2120 is a pale reflection of the blighted cityscape of Bladerunner , and though this novel makes use of a number of popular science fiction concepts (cyborgs, androids, manmade viruses, etc.), the various social issues raised by these elements receive only cursory examination. Lots of fast action here, but very little depth.

From Library Journal

Ex-policeman Jake Cardigan continues his vendetta against the powerful distributors of the insidious drug known as Tek in this sequel to TekWar ( LJ 8/89). As an unknown virus controlled by the drug lords threatens 22nd-century Los Angeles, Cardigan battles programmed assassins and intransigent authorities to prevent a disaster of worldwide proportions. Fast-paced action, high-tech gloss, and a dash of romance combine to establish Shatner as a capable proponent of the hard-boiled school of sf action/adventure. Purchase as indicated by patron demand. Previewed in Prepub Alert, LJ 1/91.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tekwar II, the adventure continues, Jun 28 2004
By ... "vilbs" (Montreal) - See all my reviews
This review is from: TekLords (Hardcover)
In the second novel of Shatner's "Tek" series, future sleuth Jake Cardigan is back and trying to rebuild a life with his new girlfriend Beth. The Tek lords have been busy though, and have created a new and deadly weapon,a synthetic plague, in order to blackmail world leaders into permitting Tek. Jake's search for the cause, and cure of the plague lead him through the usual deadly adventures to a climactic battle with an unexpected enemy in Japan.

Much like the first "Tek" novel, this is a fast paced sci-fi/mystery that doesn't go overboard on the plot development. Which is A-ok, becuase it's not meant to be a deep or meaningful novel in any way, shape, or form. It's got a lot to enjoy though, with non-stop adventure, a budding romance, and an edge of mystery that will keep the pages turning. If you enjoyed 'Tekwar', than you won't be disappointed with 'Teklords'.
