Everyone has a passion, something that they will love their entire life and never grow out of. For Jake Branford, it's war. Not just war in general, but the Civil War. Everything about it makes him light up and motivated to do anything. He spends his afternoons and evenings writing Civil War novles based on the dreams he has. His dream is to somehow revisit the war, but obviously he knows it will never happen. War reinactments dont cut it for him. One day a famous independant film director arrives in his quaint little neighborhood community in search of stars for his latest film which is about the Civil War. Jake strives to impress him, but feels he only is doing a mediocre job and disappoints himself, oblivious to whatever Mr. Kozaar, the director, thinks of his abilities. Frustrated, Jake puts the thought out of his mind. One afternoon his bike ride is interrupted by a terrible thunderstorm, and before he can get underneath shelter in time he is struck by lightning. When he awakes he happens upon a Civil War reinactment that seems free to participate in. He wanders into the scene and immediately finds himself being questioned about his preference...North or South. He says he is loyal to the North and they accept him. He is given a uniform and shown around the realistic regiment, even though he knows it is not real. He gets to know the men of the regiment and soon lives his dream when they tell him of a plan to attack the Rebels. However, soemthing strange is going on. Jake's neighborhood all of a sudden is an old-fasioned war era ghost town. The guns are real and one of the actors actually draws blood from Jake with a blade out of anger. One night a surprise attack from the Rebels leaves Jake horrified when he witnesses men actually being slaughtered and killed. He knows that it is no film, and things get truely scary when he learns that there is an unknown traitor in the regiment that is stalking all the men. How will he get home? What exactly is going on and who is the traitor?

There seems to be a common pattern between all the Watchers books, and that it that they get increasingly better and better as more are made. This particular book is full of everything the other books had, and at the same time holds a style of it's own and keeps with the much-anticipated surprise ending that is pretty much a given now in this series. This book is by far an exceptional one, and it deserved the awards it received as well as more recognition and credit more than anything. It's a shame that these books are so hard to come by. They are really something else.

What if a slightly odd director came to you house asking for great grandfathers civil
war utilities. Would you give them to him? But now there gone! So you go looking for it
and with a quick bike crash your back to the civil war times.
Jake Branford always wanted to be in a war. He finally gets his wish when he
stumbled on the set of a civil war movie or does he? Jake can determine present from
past. He is so lost and confused by the war Jake is found him self in the movie.
Will Jake survie this predicament? Will he give up his love for war? Is he actually
in a movie? What has the director done to Jake's life? Will he find his grandfathers
utilities? If you want these answers......................................................................
