From Library Journal

A newcomer to town quickly shows herself to be hateful, spiteful, and malicious, so her subsequent murder involves numerous suspects. Lori and her ghostly aunt investigate. A comfortable addition to the popular and enchanting "Aunt Dimity" series.

From Booklist

The wish fulfillment overflows in Atherton's series of very cozy cozies. American-born Lori, her attorney husband, Bill, and their adorable twin sons live near Finch, in a Cotswold cottage left her by her mother's friend, Dimity, who offers Lori advice from beyond in the form of ghost writing in a blue leather journal. When Lori and her family return from a three-month visit to the States, she finds the town atwitter over the death of Prunella "Pruneface" Hooper. Prunella sowed the seeds of discord at every turn, and Lori is intrigued enough --and upset enough by the ugliness directed at several of her closest friends--to try to solve the murder. She is aided in this by Nicholas, the charismatic nephew of the vicar, who has come to visit Finch for reasons of his own. Bill conveniently stays in London while Lori gets to the bottom of things, which include the local Wicca, the ninetysomething Pym sisters, an old heartbreak from World War II, and assorted characters from central casting, British charm division. 5.0étoiles sur 5 Aunt Dimity: Detective...., Mars 15 2004

This series is just delightful. They are not ANYTHING like a Stephen King book (his are brilliant, but they scare me so much - I can't even begin to read another one). They are maybe similar to comparing witch tales to Wizard of OZ. Aunt Dimity is like someone's "Aunt Bee." They do NOT dwell really at all in the spirital, ghostly aspect.

Start with the 1st - "Aunt Dimity's Death" and I promise that you will come back for more.

5.0étoiles sur 5 Just what I needed . . ., Oct. 24 2003
Par Un client

Having been in the vortex of some pretty vicious rumors recently, I found myself totally engrossed in this book. I haven't read any of the Dimity series, but I enjoyed this one.

I have to admit the Lori-resists-a-handsome-man was a bit off-putting because there was enough tension in the main plot line to keep the action moving forward.

Atherton's message here was: one bad apple CAN spoil the whole bunch -- if you're not careful. It happened in my town and it happened in Finch.

4.0étoiles sur 5 Not the best..., Sep 13 2003
Par Louis M. Perdue (Amsterdam, the Netherlands) - Voir tous mes commentaires

I really enjoy this series as it does not take the ghost tactic too far. Aunt Dimity, the "ghost" in the series, does not play a large part in the solving of the mysteries but is very much a side character.

In this entry, Lori is trying to discover the person responsible for the murder of a not-so-nice newcomer to Finch. The principal suspect is her friend Kit, who first appeared in an earlier episode of the series and she knows that he is innocent. Along the way to solving the crime (which Lori does not really solve), she and the vicar's nephew, Nicholas, discover some pretty dark secrets about several villagers.

I almost rated this 3 stars as I figured out how the victim was killed and, more disappointing, I am getting tired of Lori always meeting and halfway falling in love with a handsome stranger. It seems like in every single story, she is having to stave off emotional and physical attraction to some man. While I am sure that happens in many marriages once, it is getting a little tiresome when you realize that she has done this a few times.

Here we are in the Cotswolds, but this is a completely different view of the Cotswolds than that of M.C. Beaton's Agatha Raisin books, which are also a lot of fun. Read more

4.0étoiles sur 5 I enjoyed this entry in the series much more than the last.
The mystery interested me more, and the characters were mostly
more fun. And I enjoyed the rather unusual killer.
