Product Description

Acclaimed for her "devastatingly accurate insight" (The New York Times Book Review) into the criminal mind, Ann Rule has chronicled the most fascinating cases of our time in her bestselling Crime Files series. For this sixth stunning collection, Rule has culled from her private files the most-asked-about homicide cases -- riveting accounts of seemingly normal men and women who are compelled d by a murderous rage to suddenly lash out at innocent victims.

Torn from the headlines, here is the case that shocked a nation: the Seattle city bus ride that turned to mayhem and murder at the hands of a gunman. Ann Rule unmasks the forces that drove quiet, clean-cut Silas Cool to shoot the driver, causing the bus to plunge off the Aurora Bridge into an apartment building. The catastrophe left three dead -- including Cool -- and dozens injured. While the scene unfolds as in a terrifying movie, Rule finds very real answers to the haunting question "how could this happen?" -- and expertly constructs the unseen chain of events that resulted in an explosive and shattering tragedy.

Included here are nine other sensational cases that illuminate Rule's unique and authoritative view of the human psyche gone temporarily berserk. No one can match Rule's meticulous research, or reveal the motives to murder in such explicit and chilling detail. You may think you know who is safe and who is dangerous; in A Rage to Kill, Ann Rule frighteningly shows that none of us are truly protected from the flashes of irrational violence that can erupt from the killers among us.

About the Author

Ann Rule is a former Seattle policewoman and the author of fourteen New York Times bestsellers, including five Crime Files volumes prior to A Rage to Kill: In the Name of Love, the #1 bestseller A Fever in the Heart, You Belong to Me, A Rose for Her Grave, and The End of the Dream; Bitter Harvest, the shattering case of Debora Green, a doctor and loving mother driven to lethal acts of vengeance; the #1 bestseller If You Really Loved Me, a chilling chronicle of a millionaire's murderous secret life; Everything She Ever Wanted, the terrifying story of a sociopathic Georgia belle and her fatal allure; Small Sacrifices, the horrific account of a woman's homicidal assault on her three young children; The Stranger Beside Me, the fascinating tale of Rule's dawning horror as she realized her friend and coworker, Ted Bundy, was a serial killer; the #1 New York Times bestseller Dead by Sunset, a nightmarish story of a charismatic man and the women who always gave him what he wanted -- sex, money, their very lives; The Want-Ad Killer; The I-Five Killer; The Lust Killer; and the #1 New York Times bestselling novel, Possession.

Ann Rule has testified before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee and regularly presents seminars to scores of law enforcement agencies, including the FBI Academy. She served on the U.S. Justice Department task force that set up VI-CAP (the Violent Criminal Apprehension Program now in place at FBI headquarters) to track and trap serial killers. She lives near Seattle.

4.0étoiles sur 5 GREAT BOOK, Jui 29 2004
This is a very good book, although it has made me a bit paranoid about going places or being alone. The stories in this book are very graphic, depressing, but compelling. The only flaw with this book is that at times I was bored with how long it actually took the story to begin, such as The Bus To Nowhere and The Lost Lady, although I guess its to help better understand the people and victims. Overall a very good book,i recommend it.

5.0étoiles sur 5 Fascinating and Sympathetic, Mai 14 2004
Par Un client
What a good book! As usual, Rule's style is riveting and thorough. Her stories are tied together by the violence of the crimes, but distinct in the different locations, personalities and lifestyles of the victims, and motives of the killers. The investigations into the crimes are explored in meticulous detail. One of my favorite aspects of the book was her very sympathetic, detailed, respectful and personal portrayal of each victim - with a few deft strokes she showed each one as a real, unique person, not just another blood and guts image on the screen. This, in turn, showed the loss society suffers every time a crime of this nature occurs. Interestingly, the opening and title story of this book was not as good as some of the later ones - so if you don't care for the first story - keep reading. It's worth it.

3.0étoiles sur 5 macabre true stories = depressing yet compulsive reading, Déc 15 2002
Par lazza (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) - Voir tous mes commentaires
'A Rage To Kill' is the sixth installment of Ann Rule's "Crime Files", and I fear the series is running out of steam. While the others in the series focus on one main story followed on by shorter stories, this book only contains short-ish (30-50 pages) stories. And so we don't have the pleasure of Ann Rule's great research and insight, as found in her single story books (eg, 'Dead By Sunset'). It is as if the author didn't want to sweat the details and simply wanted to tart up police reports, and then stuff them into a book.

Having said all this, Ann Rule does write in a very fluid style. Her books are always a fast read. And while the stories here are most definitely morbid and horrific, they are fascinating (much like viewing a road accident).

Bottom line: empty calories for the brain. But like junk food, hopelessly addictive.
