Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Kane's latest Regency is a sequel to her last romantic suspense novel, The Gold Coin. Reserved but passionate noblewoman Breanna Colby hopes she can finally get on with her life now that her unscrupulous father is permanently behind bars. Instead, she receives a taunting missive from a shadowy assassin who makes not only Breanna, but also her best friend and cousin, Anastasia, his target. As the threats mount, the cousins enlist the help of aristocratic private detective Royce Chadwick, who pits his wits against the killer's; in the process of solving several related mysteries he falls in love with Breanna. The assassin's prolonged toying with his victims feels too contrived to generate much tension, but Kane's writing is strong and well paced. Breanna and her intimates are appealingly staunch and spirited. Regency devotees may miss the period charm typical of the genre, however; though the story is set in 1817, its actions, attitudes and speech patterns are distinctly contemporary. (Sept.)

About the Author

Dear Readers,

I've been a "cerebral" type all of my life. I have a non-stop, questioning, analytical mind. I love doing crossword puzzles. To this day, I snatch the Sunday New York Times magazine section every week before the rest of my family can get to it. I then labor over that puzzle until I've exhausted myself (or finished the whole thing). In school, I read Agatha Christie books one after the other, and tried feverishly to outsmart Hercule Poirot.

On the other hand, I'm a die-hard sentimentalist. I cry at old movies and believe in striving for happily-ever-after. Relationships and family mean the world to me, not only in films and novels, but in real life, as well. The bonds we form with each other are often what sustain us in our most difficult moments, and what enhance our most jubilant celebrations.

To sum it up, I'm an interesting combination of idealist and pragmatist. And that works perfectly with what I write. The idealist in me loves writing romance, and the pragmatist in me loves writing suspense. I feel very fortunate that I'm able to combine the two, and give you books that keep you at the edge of your seat, but at the same time, make you care.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, Sep 26 2003
By Office Girl (Vancouver, British Columbia Canada) - See all my reviews
Nothing stellar, but the story was OK. In general I liked the 2 main characters and all the sub-characters, including Breanna's cousin, Stacie and her husband (from 'The Gold Coin'). The women's lives are in deadly danger, their husbands just happen to be the most capable men in England, an assassin is trying to hunt them...at the height of danger what do the women do? Sneak away from their guards and experienced protectors, run out into an open field determined to hunt him down. What do you think happens? He catches them of course. Give me a break. And they are trying to prove that they're not stupid useless females?... Weak over-used finale plot device detracted from a pretty good story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Silver Coin, May 30 2002
By barbara estes (W. Harrison, IN United States) - See all my reviews
I thought that the depth of the characters and love relationship that developed was wonderful. The plot is great with action, adventure and supspense and up until the very end you are not sure who is the assasin. This book was one that I couldn't put down. I favor books that don't have stupid conflicts with the characters and felt this one was wonderful. I now wish to read every Andrea Kane novel, she is up there with my favorite Julie Garwood.

3.0 out of 5 stars Brenna's Story, April 20 2002
By Kristi Ahlers (Illinois) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
If you have read any other Andrea Kane books you may be disappointed. Although is is a good story there is just something that seeems to be lacking. I am not sure what that something is but it seems to lack some of the magic that is Andrea Kane. I am a huge fan and I buy her books simply due to the name on the cover and this will not change.

This is Brenna's story and is the conclusion to the coin series. The first being The Gold Coin. Although it is not a five star story it is still worth the time to read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Where was the editor?
A silly book with a predicatable plot, a laughable so-called mystery, and historical inacuracies galore. The kind of book that give historical romance a bad name. Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Who ever heard of an 19th century heroine called Breanna?
Maybe I'm being too picky, but I get tired of suspending disbelief with romances. A note to Kane: no one in the 19th century would have been named Breanna! Read more
