4.0 out of 5 stars "Timely" Trek Through "History", Nov 3 2003
By T. Lobascio (New Jersey United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The idea for The Star Trek Chronology: The History of the Future, came about when the folks at Pocket Books decided to publish a Star Trek Encylopedia. An outline of charaters and key events was needed to help organize the ever expanding Trek saga, so that they could have an easier time of it with the "pedia". Michael and Denise Okuda, staffers on every Star Trek series since TNG, were put in charge of that task.

The updated edition from '96 is improved to include information on everything from the big bang through NASA to the film First Contact. By including events from the real world, the authors give the book a much more detailed feel, than it otherwise would have had. It's also fun to relate "our history" to Trek's timeline of events. The book is filled with fun and even some toungue in cheek humor. The 342 page book is not without a few minor mistakes, but given the scope of the chronology, it's still edited better than some other reference books on Trek of late. There are dozens of color photos throughout, no less than 10 apendicies, an index, and a bibliography also included. The chronology is a fun "trek" through time. But it's been quite a long time since the last revised edition. I would welcome an updated version soon

5.0 out of 5 stars An unique reference to Star Trek, Jun 17 2000
By Mel Orr (Durham, North Carolina) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A great reference that starts several billion years B.C. to about one thousand A.D. This book has up to Star Trek: Next Generation First Contact, Deep Space Nine Season Four, and Voyager Season Two. One favorite section of mine is the alternate universes section with ALL of the alternate universes up to date. Now I'm waiting for an revised edition...

5.0 out of 5 stars From the Big Bang to th 123rd century, this has everything!, Jul 1 1998
By A Customer
Everything I need to know about Star Trek is in this amazing book. The only problem I have with it is that I bought it when Star Trek Deep Space Nine was ending it's fourth season, and in the book, it goes up to the end of it's fourth season. I had no idea what was happening for two years! Oh well, now I know. Anyway, this book really helped me to understand the world of Star Trek, and the amazing thing is, that everything in this book has followed history so far! Anyway, I reccommend this book to any true Star Trek fans!
