From School Library Journal
Gr 9 Up-Jenna Blake, a freshman at Somerset University in Massachusetts, works as a pathology assistant where she often helps the medical examiner with autopsies. After an attack on campus leaves a student dead and Jenna's boyfriend in the hospital, many black students protest the casual attitude they feel the police have shown toward the crime. Tensions rise further when white students are assaulted by an individual whom witnesses claim is a black man. The protagonist is strong and smart, but at times the author gives her more information than she would reasonably have. In fact, she often comes up with answers before the police do. The story is involving, but the fact that police gun down the perpetrator before he is able to reveal his motives may annoy some readers. Also, the premise of the killer having two rare diseases, one that gives him the ability to change the pigment of his skin at will and the other making the bones of his face malleable, is far-fetched. The writing style, a cross between horror and mystery with vivid descriptions of autopsies amid the backdrop of college life, will hold teenagers' attention.-Michele Snyder, Chappaqua Public Library, NY

Julie Dretzin ably conveys the anger, sorrow, and terror at the center of this tale of brutal crimes and racial intolerance on a college campus. Jenna Blake, the heroine of the Body of Evidence series, is enjoying her second semester in college. She has a new boyfriend and a great job in the county medical examiner's office. When an African-American couple is attacked, followed shortly after by a white student, the campus becomes inflamed with protests and rallies. Jenna finds herself looking for clues while defending her own interracial romance. This exciting story, with its escalating tension, danger, and emotions, will appeal to young adult fans of suspense and mystery stories. E.J.F. © AudioFile 2002, Portland, Maine--
