Product Description

One of an epic fantasy series including "Werenight", "Prince of the North" and "King of the North". Ever since the devastating werenight that ended the Elabonian Empire, Aragis the Archer has been saying that he doesn't want war with Gerin the Fox. If so, why does he adopt a threatening attitude?

Ingram

Gerin the Fox likes peace and independence. For 10 years, respect for Gerin's wiliness has kept Aragis the Archer content to stay within his borders. But when he threatens an independent baron, Gerin is called in. Neither Aragis nor Gerin are young men anymore. Nor is Gerin's giant fighting friend Van as formidable as he once was. Strength goes. But guile, guile endures. And no one in the northlands has more guile than Gerin the Fox.

4.0 out of 5 stars I hope Turtledove writes more of this universe!, Dec 31 1999

That demigod is a very interesting character. He could turn out to be a very valuable ally of the Fox and his descendants. You got to admit, the Fox and/or the Archer could have saved themselves alot of trouble by fortifying the pass to the northlands. It would have been better if the Fox defeated the all imperial troops in conventional battle without the intervention of Biton. But then I wished that because I crave large-scale combat.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Fox muddles through, again, Mar 15 1998
By A Customer
One of the reasons I have enjoyed the Fox books is that Turttledove's Fox takes what comes and deals with it. Usually with wit and guile, and a little luck; and recognizes his own limitations. It's nice to have a series where we see the maturity of the pricipals grow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great series, keep it up, Mar 12 1998
By A Customer
The continuing adventures of Gerin the Fox , King of the Northlands, are a wild ride. For a man who just wants to live in peace, Gerin has adventure after adventure. The return of the Empire after 20 years is a headache he doesn't need, on top of his problems with greedy neighbors and a 4 year old demigod. Great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well done, Harry!
I am working my way through most of H. Turtledove's books and this one is even better than most -- which means you should sit up, take note and go find yourself a copy.
