From AudioFile

You could paper the walls of an Irish castle with the accolades bestowed upon Angela's Ashes. First, the print version won the Pulitzer Prize. Then Frank McCourt himself narrated the abridged version (celebrated in AudioFile, April/May 1997). But the best was yet to come--the entire book read and sung and recited by author McCourt. Here we have the stereotypical Irish characters--the drunken poet father; the all-suffering mother; the miserable, hungry kids being turned away by a haughty Church--all made three-dimensional and brought fully to life by both McCourt's language and his loving, intimate narration. "It happened," this voice attests, "I was there." Grim it is--but the tale and its teller transcend the poverty--and so does the listener, who glories in the story and voice from beginning to end. Happily, Mc-Court is at work on a sequel. We eagerly await his next turn at the mike. We eagerly await his next turn at the mike. Winner of AUDIOFILE's Earphones Award.. A four-tape abridgment also read by Frank McCourt is available. E.K.D. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine --Ce texte provient d'une édition qui n'est plus publiée ou qui est non diponible.

5.0étoiles sur 5 Now I'm in love with Frank McCourt..., Fév 15 2007

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Angela's Ashes (Audio CD)
I've never read a book like this, most memoirs/biographies usually come into the room with their egos a foot in front, this one is written from a heart that is tender, decent, unpretentious and loyal. I loved his passionate sense of justice as a small boy, claiming his rights as sole owner of his dad's Cuchulain stories, or was that just jealous possession? When his mum's depressed, you want to hug Frankie and hold his hand because his world's just gone all cold, and the world doesn't get any colder than when your mum's not singing and in the kitchen making a cup of tea. I laughed out loud on all the humerous pages until they were mixed with the sad pages and then I was hit with the real tragedy of little Frankie's and his brothers' lives between downstairs in damp Ireland and upstairs in sunny Italy. Sometimes it was as if he was writing a song, and the chorus was at the end again and again, like all the fiddles coming together in a jig and ending with a jingle of the tambourine. I have so much fondness for this book and Mr McCourt's gentle spirit, and I really hope that one day we can share some laughter in a pub over a couple of pints of Guinness and a ploughman's lunch (crusty bread, cheddar cheese, and pickled onions, no rashers needed).

5.0étoiles sur 5 Great, Mars 7 2005
ANGELA'S ASHES is one of a handful of books that rate at the top of my reading list. Very few make it there (McCrae's CHILDREN'S CORNER is another, as is Styron's SOPHIE'S CHOICE-but there are not many.) It is neat to see the life of a family who lived in the 1930s. This book was so real to me in that I was able to see the story while I read the pages. It was very easy to follow and the words are not hard to read. I defiantly encourage you to read this book. When's the last time you allowed a book to take you on a journey through time?

5.0étoiles sur 5 One of the best books I read., Jui 7 2004
This is the kind of book that you devour so much it is interesting. The words aren't enough to describe such a beautiful story and writing. It is extremely sad but it makes your life like the one of a king afterwards. You won't be able to complaint. It's strong and the only thing to do after you read this wonder, is to grab Tys, the sequel. Also very interesting...
