Product Description

From School Library Journal

Grade 8 Up-In The Fallen (Pulse, 2003), 18-year-old Aaron Corbet learned that he was a Nephilim (the son of a mortal woman and a fallen angel); lost his foster family in a battle with fallen angels; brought his dog, Gabriel, back from death; and gained the power to understand animal speech. Here, Aaron; his angelic traveling companion, Camael; and Gabriel encounter a vicious Orisha, a goblinlike creature that bites Gabriel, forcing Aaron to find the vet in the small Maine town to which they have been drawn. Katie McGovern, the new vet, has also been strangely drawn there by the mysterious disappearance of her fiance, and she and Aaron quickly unite to investigate the strange goings-on in Blithe. It doesn't take long for them to discover that the townspeople are being controlled by a horrible beast living underground. Confronting Leviathan forces Aaron to recognize, accept, use, and refine his angelic powers. Although the story revolves around angels, heavenly messengers, and otherworldly creatures, it has no clear religious message. The real emphasis is on guts, gore, and bodily fluids of all types. The plot reads like a grade-B horror movie with as many nauseating descriptions as possible and dialogue reminiscent of the comics the author has written. This addition to the series stands on its own, with enough background from book one included to introduce the characters. There is also plenty of foreshadowing of later developments along with hints about the sequel. It's not great literature, but fans of the first installment might want it.

Eighteen-year-old Aaron is on the run from the Powers that killed his foster parents and took his younger brother, Steven. 5.0 out of 5 stars It's hard to find good sequels, but the Leviathan is great!, Nov 10 2003
This story gives much more inside on Aaronï¿s angelic destiny. We (the readers) watch him grow and develop as he learns to control his angelic nature. With Gabe, the magically enhanced Labrador retriever, and Camael, former leader of the Powers, Aaron sets out on a search to save his autistic foster brother Stevie whoï¿s been captured by Verchiel, cruel leader of the powers. On the way he encounters an evil as ancient as the world itself including the Archangel Gabriel who also believes Aaron is the Nephilim of the prophesy that says that he will reunite the fallen with God.
In the Leviathan, we learn a little more about the structure of the story as well as receive a foreshadowing of the events to come in the next book, Aerie. Just like in the first books, the descriptions are so real that if one allows oneself to, he or she can really feel the pain and anguish of the characters. This makes the book very powerful. I recommend the enter series to everyone who likes a good fantasy, and anyone whoï¿s read the first book must read this one.
My suggestion: keep an eye out for the prisoner from the Serbian monetary. Thereï¿s something about himï¿

5.0 out of 5 stars The Fallen... there but for the grace...., Sep 7 2003

...

A great read - I highly recomend it. I read it in one night, I just couldn't put it down. Much better than the first, it goes more into Aaron's past, and his ultimate goal. But don't read it before you read the first book! You'll be horribly lost.
