Product Description

A quirky Roderick Alleyn mystery about faith, greed -- and murder. Times are good in the Cornish village of Portcarrow, as hundreds of unfortunates flock to taste the miraculous waters of Pixie Falls. Then Miss Emily Pride inherits the celebrated land on which Portcarrow stands and wants to put an end to the villagers' thriving trade in miracle cures, especially Miss Elspeth Costs's gift shop. But someone puts an end to Miss Cost herself, and Miss Pride's guardian angel, Superintendent Roderick Alleyn, finds himself on the spot in both senses of the word... --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Ingram

A week of death threats at a faith-healing resort ends in murder. Inspector Roderick Alleyn is then faced with the most challenging case of his career. What makes matters worse is the fact that one of the suspects is his oldest friend. In classic Marsh fashion, the other suspect turns out to be none other than the victim herself. --This text refers to the Mass Market Paperback edition.

This was a horrible book. It had no meaning, no adventure, and litteraly was disgusting. I recommend You not to read this book.

This review is from: Dead Water (Mass Market Paperback)
Marsh's talent for the creation of memorable characters is particularly notable in this novel, which features formidable spinster "Miss Emily," who--much to the lethal consternation of the residents--is determined to end further distasteful commercialization of the island property she has recently inherited. Marsh's eye for detail, a sure touch for dialogue, and a particularly clever puzzle make DEAD WATER among her finest works.

5.0étoiles sur 5 Colorful characters and a quaint English fishing village., Aoû 21 1999
This review is from: Dead Water (Mass Market Paperback)
One of Marsh's best, the story is a mixture of fun stuff -- faith healing, young love, amorous misadventures, and the crass commercialization of a pretty coastal village. When half-witted little Wally Trehern's warts dry up and fall off after a plunge in the local coldspring, "trippers" begin to zero in on Portcarrow seeking the cure. Just when everybody's making money, a starchy old spinster comes along and tries to spoil things. A classic, cozy mystery with writing that's way above average for the genre.
