When Henry Lett dies, leaving a restaurant that is far from thriving, his young widow is keen to sell the business and make what profit she can. But his nephew Edwin is loath to see the once-famous Letts pass out of the family's hands, and he persuades Hugh Lett, Henry's son from his first marriage, to come in as his partner and set the restaurant back on its feet again. With Helen, the daughter of one-time restaurant manager William Goodridge, also on board, it seems an ideal proposition. However, there is a bumpy ride ahead: both Hugh and Edwin fall for Helen, and though she marries Edwin and has two beautiful baby daughters, the flame of attraction between her and Hugh still simmers in the background, while a fearful Will watches over the trio, waiting and wondering when to reveal a devastating secret...

About the Author

Elizabeth Lord was born in the East End of London but from the age of six she has lived in Essex. After the death of her first husband when she was only twenty-six, she worked as a legal secretary until she remarried in 1968. She has a son and two daughters, all married. Elizabeth Lord is an ardent traveller and likes to spend her time visiting ever more exotic locations. She is the author of several novels, including The Turning Tides, For All the Bright Promise, The Bowmaker Girls and Mile End Girl.
