DCI Roger Hayes is walking home when he hears a woman scream. He thwarts the two thugs attempting to rob her but is stabbed in the process. His recovery period will be lengthy, so when the woman offers to send him on a paid holiday to her brother's spa, Roger accepts. However, there's a condition: a number of the spa's wealthy clients have been attacked, and Roger's job is to unmask the muggers and their motive. This is something of a departure from Armstrong's typically straightforward procedural fare, but the clever plot should hold fans of the series.
