Product Description

A light to defy the darkness - Battered and bruised, suffering grievous loss, the Company enter the great city of Instruere. There they must warn the Council of Faltha of the Destroyer's threat. But they do not expect the depth of treachery that awaits them. Bhrudwo's tentacles go far deeper into Faltha than even Mahnum realises. The City is divided against itself, with the Watchers on whom Kurr pins his hopes nowhere to be found. And with the arrival of a disturbing stranger with fearful powers, the factions in Instruere rapidly reach flash point. Only one thing can unite a land wracked with mistrust - but can it be found? Or, as the Company fears, is the Jugom Ark merely a legend?

3.0étoiles sur 5 It wasn't that bad..., Mai 15 2009

It's not Tolkien but the story is original and was worth the read.

Not a MUST buy but I enjoyed it enough to warrant the purchase.

Your mileage may vary.

1.0étoiles sur 5 Avoid. Do NOT buy. Avoid., Mai 16 2008

Any author who feels the need to provide a 26 page Glossary, in 13 languages must not think much of his readers' intelligence.
The books are ridiculously overwitten. Every character is a mess. Every bit of dialogue is painfully wrong. Every emotional response is totally off.
A painful, amateurish attempt to imitate Tolkien, or Eddings. And a woeful failure.
Mr. Kirkpatrick is a map maker. He provides 6 maps. And oodles of topographical detail. He sadly fails in writing. I have no idea what his editors were smoking while working on his "epic", nor what his publisher was thinking. But it has been quite a while since I attempted to read something this bad.
The quote on the front of the book by Trudi Canavan is: Not since Tolkien have I been so awed. I don't know Trudi Canavan. But either she is awed by the number of badly written pages, or she got paid for her blurb.
