Product Description

From AudioFile

Sports agent Myron Bolitar has under contract one of the hottest young male tennis players around. When a young former tennis star is murdered (shortly after Myron met with her), he finds that the two cases may be connected--and that he's involved. Showing his talents in a story that moves from high society to lowlifes, Jonathon Marosz ably shifts characters and pace, and captures the wry humor of Myron and the grittiness of the physical threats and violence he encounters. Solid narration brings out the best of the characters. Product Description

Valerie Simpson is a young female tennis star with a troubled past who's now on the verge of a comeback and wants Myron as her agent. Myron, who's also got the hottest young male tennis star, Duane Richwood, primed to take his first grand slam tournament, couldn't be happier. That is, until Valerie is murdered in broad daylight at the U.S. Open and Myron's number one client becomes the number one suspect.

Clearing Duane's name should be easy enough. Duane was playing in a match at the time of Valerie's death. But why is his phone number in Valerie's black book when he claims only to have known her in passing? Why was she calling him from a phone booth on the street? The police stop caring once they pin the murder on a man known for having stalked Valerie and seen talking to her moments before the murder. But Myron isn't satisfied. It seems too clean for him.

Myron pries a bit and finds himself prying open the past where six years before, Valerie's fiancee, the son of a senator, was brutally murdered by a juvenile delinquent and a straight-A student was subsequently gunned down on the street in retaliation, his death squandered in bureaucratic files. And everyone from the Senator to the mob want Myron to stop digging.

The truth beneath the truth is not only dangerous, it's deadly. And Myron may be the next victim.

In novels that crackle with wit and suspense, Edgar Award winner Harlan Coben has created one of the most fascinating and complex heroes in suspense fiction—Myron Bolitar—a hotheaded, tenderhearted sports agent who grows more and more engaging and unpredictable with each page-turning appearance. --This text refers to the Mass Market Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars COMPELLING MIXTURE OF MIRTH AND MAYHEM, Jul 27 2006
By Gail Cooke (TX, USA) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Drop Shot (Audio Cassette)

Do believe that Jonathan Marosz has narrated all of Harlan Coben's novels featuring Myron Bolitar - lucky for us! Just as Coben's hero is quick with repartee Marosz is quick to capture the personality Coben has created. This voice performer manages to mix mirth with mayhem and render a highly listenable story. His reading is smooth, precise, very easy on the ears.

As many will recall Bolitar is a man of much experience - a former attorney, basketball star, and now a sports agent. The setting for Drop Shot is the U.S. Open, and the score is most definitely not love.

Valerie Simpson, once a promising tennis player is ready to return to the courts, and she wants Bolitar to represent her. He already has one client, Duane Richwood, a young man who looks like he may come away with a grand slam. That is until Valerie is found murdered and Duane is high on the suspect list.

Of course, Bolitar begins to investigate Valerie's death in order to clear his client - not too tough as Duane was on the court when she was killed. Soon, a man who was seen with her shortly before her death is arrested. But, you know Bolitar, he can't stop probing, and the surprises are in what he finds.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Deal Breaker, but still great!, Jul 19 2004
By Trouble (Hartford, CT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Drop Shot (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this book in one day, and it was great. But at this point I expect as much from Harlan Coben. Drop Shot was not as excellent as Deal Breaker, and I had the ending figured out before Myron. But none the less it is still an exciting, suspensful, and funny novel. I recommend it. And I have already picked up Myron's next adventure, the Edgar award winning Fade Away. I can't wait to get started.
If you pick up this book, which you should, enjoy! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, May 12 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Drop Shot (Mass Market Paperback)
Harlan Coben's books are always good. They keep you guessing till the very end. Myron Bolitar is a sports agent who will do anything to help his client even if it is not in their contract. In this book Myron helps his Tennis star Duanne Richardson. Duanne is a suspect in the murder of Valerie Simpson. Myron goes and investigates the murder of Valerie and what he finds he does not like. This book has humour, suspense, mystery and everything in it to make a great book. I liked this book even though I am 12. I would not recommend it for children though it has things that could be considered questionable.
