Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Rarely has a character been so instantly embraced by readers as Koontz's unlikely hero, Odd Thomas, the wise and gentle fry cook, who just happens to see dead people. It is just as rare for a narrator to so perfectly capture the essence of a character that it is hard to imagine anyone else giving him voice, but such is the case with Baker. In this third adventure, Odd has left his hometown and taken up residence in a monastery high in the Sierras. Surrounded by loving but eccentric brothers and sisters, Odd hopes to rest and recover from the horrific events of the last two books. But after he discovers the body of one of the monastery brothers, Odd finds himself going up against a supernatural force that threatens the lives of everyone who lives within the monastery walls. Baker beautifully interprets the first-person narration. Like Odd himself, Baker's delivery is mellow and low key, perfectly fitting Odd's calm, self-possessed point of view. Suspenseful, funny and heartbreakingly sweet, this is a fine, enjoyable production.

From AudioFile

After three novels featuring the aptly named Odd Thomas, it's clear Dean Koontz has a winner. I like Odd Thomas! I want to read more about him, especially after the teasing ending of his latest and greatest adventure, BROTHER ODD. Actor David Aaron Baker has performed all three "Odd" novels, and it's hard to imagine anyone else doing the fourth. Baker captures the gentleness of Odd; the benevolent sadness of his brilliant 400-pound friend, Oswald; and the confident and godly monks with whom Odd sought refuge after his girlfriend was murdered. The peculiar young man, whose mother meant to name him "Todd," sees demons called "bodocks," which swarm in places where death and destruction are imminent. It's up to Odd to figure out the impending danger and stop it. M.S. 2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing!, Jul 18 2008
I'm an avid DK fan and really enjoyed the previous Odd Thomas books. Brother Odd was very disappointing though! I found it very slow, the characters felt disjointed and not as "real" as they have been in other Koontz books. The story was very slow to get started and once it got good, it was over.

I hope the next Odd Thomas book is better than this one or it will be my last of the series.

2.0 out of 5 stars Brother Odd, Jan 28 2008
By Steve Macscottie (Ontario,Canada) - See all my reviews
DISAPPOINTING!! I can`t believe this book has received 5 stars so far. Have these people not read Dean Koontz before? Not up to Dean Koontz standards. Story was slow, boring, repetitious. A little sci-fi at the end. A very dull book. Struggled to finish it. And I've read every Dean Koontz book. I usually love this guy's work. His earlier works are still best, ie, Dark Rivers of the Heart, Tic Tock, His first two Odd Thomas books were very good, but this one was a waste of time. Get it from the library, don't buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oddworld, Feb 6 2007
By Grim (Selkirk, Manitoba Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Brother Odd (Hardcover)
In the latest Odd Thomas adventure, we find our protagonist where he left off from the last book, at a monestary seeking solice. It is shortlived, however, when Odd starts seeing Bodachs increasing in number salivating form the inevetability of a good ol massacre. This time, Odd faces a new kind of enemy. I won't say what but it's really interesting and very original. Brother Odd isn't as fast paced as the first or as profound as the second but it's just as witty and finds it's niche quite nicely. If your a fan of the series, you'll definately enjoy this book.
