About the Author

George R.R. Martin sold his first story in 1971 and has been writing professionally since then. He spent ten years in Hollywood as a writer-producer, working on The Twilight Zone, Beauty and the Beast, and various feature films and television pilots that were never made. In the mid '90s he returned to prose, his first love, and began work on his epic fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire. He has been in the Seven Kingdoms ever since. Whenever he's allowed to leave, he returns to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he lives with the lovely Parris, a big white dog called Mischa, and two cats named Augustus and Caligula, who think they run the place.

5.0 out of 5 stars anticipation, Mar 28 2009
This review is from: A Dance with Dragons (Hardcover)
I have awaited the release of this book since I read The Feast For Crows
upon it's release. I have read a few pages of A Dance With Dragons on
George R.R. Martin's website and all I can say is that the series keeps
getting better and better the more I see of it. Martin writes with the
talent of the bards of old, they keep us coming back for more, then screaming with frustration when the story is left hanging for what we
feel is too long before the sequel. If a fine wine is better with aging
A Dance With Dragons should be a fine vintage, for what I have seen of it
so far has left me just itching to get my hands on that book. The series
is a definite keeper, I also understand that it is to be followed by more, hopefully they will not take as long to make it to the shelves.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Coming, April 23 2009
By J. Tabler (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: A Dance with Dragons (Hardcover)
The reason that his last update was in January of last year is because he has been working on many other projects including a joint collaboration of other authors on a new series called Wild Cards as well as (to Shirley Ann's delight I'm sure) discussing details about shooting a t.v series for A Game of Thrones with HBO which has just been announced this month, they begin shooting in October of 2009 so to all those nay sayers who keep sayign the book won't come it will just give him time. I ask you this. Do you want a rushed first draft or a final draft where he has taken the time to write the story just the way he wants it.

5.0 out of 5 stars We all know he is incredibly busy but......., Sep 5 2008
By The extravagant one "mels" (Calgary, AB Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Dance with Dragons (Hardcover)
Unfortunately, you will see from Amazon's publication information that the date is now 13 April 2013!!!!!! Can any of us really bear to wait another 4-1/2 years? Since, however, he is so busy with many projects besides this series, I do not think nagging him will do any good. Remember the wait we had for the last one? He does have a couple of chapters on his website, however.

5.0 out of 5 stars I doubt it!!
I would take that release date with a grain of salt and check his website every month or so for a more accurate release date. I know he takes his time but that date seems absurd!
