5.0 out of 5 stars The Ups and Downs of Raising a Bipolar Child : A Survival Gu, April 15 2004
By B. Viberg "Alex Rodriguez" (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
In the last decade, increasing numbers of children and adolescents have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder (manic depression). Though this disorder was previously thought not to occur before young adulthood, it is now acknowledged to be relatively common and often misdiagnosed. Life with bipolar children can be harrowing, as they can rapidly cycle from uncontrollable exuberance to suicidal depression. This book, written by the parent of a bipolar child with the assistance of a psychiatrist, offers concrete tips on how to handle difficult situations, such as what to tell siblings, dealing with the distress caused by the necessary blood tests, and coping with teens who get into legal trouble. Details about diagnosis, medication, and treatment are briefly covered(...)

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the besk book in the whole, wide world!, Mar 9 2004
By A Customer
This book is extremely informative and helpful. I love the "notes from the couch" sections at the end of each chapter. No really good books had been written for parents before this. Thanks and conragulations to the authors (ESPCIALLY DR. CANDIDA FINK).

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books on Early Onset Bipolar Disorder, Feb 11 2004
By Patricia A. Foil "Trish Foil" (Eglin AFB, FL United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a must for any parent with a child with Early Onset Bipolar Disorder. I very rarely highlight a book but this one now has many pink markings and I have told my husband he must read this. There are very few books on Early Onset Bipolar Disorder and this is one of three that I strongly encourage you to read.
Many believe that BP stands for bad parenting, this book dispels this myth. If any child in your family has Early Onset Bipolar Disorder I would suggest reading this book and passing it onto all the family members!!
