About the Author

Dr. Paul Pimsleur devoted his life to language teaching and testing and was one of the world's leading experts in applied linguistics. After years of experience and research, Dr. Pimsleur developed The Pimsleur Method based on two key principles:  the Principle of Anticipation and a scientific principle of memory training that he called ?Graduated Interval Recall.?  This Method has been applied to the many levels and languages of the Pimsleur Programs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great start in Arabic, Feb 12 2002

Today I just finished the 8 lesson Pimsleur Egyptian Arabic course. It's fantastic. I've used many of these Pimsleur courses and am a big fan to begin with, but Arabic poses some unique challenges. The pronunciation is a bear, with a handful of sounds that we don't have in English. Nonetheless, Pimsleur walks you through them, helping you pronounce them. The real test came when I tried out my new skills on a Arabic speaker at a local gas station today. He was blown away by what I knew and understood me just fine, even though he speaks a different dialect than Egyptian. Pimsleur is supposed to publish a full 30 lesson "big brother" course to this one, and I plan on getting so I can keep going in Egyptian Arabic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pimsleur Egyptian Arabic 4 CD's, Jan 19 2004

A highly recommended tool for learning Egyptian Arabic! I am definately going to invest on the next set of lessons. It's very easy to follow and learn with the Pimsleur sytem.

It would be nice to see what they could do as far as learning how to read and write it as well. That would be something I would also be interested in!

I am very pleased with this purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just returned from using this in Egypt, Mar 15 2004

I bought this audio set the beginning of the year in preperation for a 2 week trip to Egypt. I received comments from the locals that I was speaking like a native. Everyone I encountered was peasantly suprised with my ability to speak Arabic and Pimsleur's Abridged Egyptian Arabic gave me enough to function as a tourist in the country. I can't wait to see what's in the complete course.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad at all -- It is simple and quick
I really like the pimsleur approach to learning: they repeat things at the right time. Kinda weird, they say thing backwards so you learn it better -- and it works. Read more
