4.0 out of 5 stars Graphic yet compelling, Sep 9 2003
By A Customer
I was so engrossed in this book, I couldn't put it down. I found Rebecca's storyline particularly interesting, Shaespeare's, not so much. It is not for the faint of heart - there are graphic descriptions of torture that may be fiction but are based on actual historical events and are very disturbing. But if you can handle it, it's a great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars RE: Review by 12 year old Portuguese reader, Dec 10 2002
By A Customer
To correct this readers review, the book states the Lopez family IS Portuguese, and not Spanish -- Page 220 in hardcover.

3.0 out of 5 stars A disappointment, Mar 4 2002
By K. E Hart - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I found this book to be very dark, with scenes of torture and rape. While she might have been attempting to show the position of women in this society, it could have been done in a different manner. I prefer Faye Kellerman's contemporary mysteries.
