4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK, Jun 29 2004
This is a very good book, although it has made me a bit paranoid about going places or being alone. The stories in this book are very graphic, depressing, but compelling. The only flaw with this book is that at times I was bored with how long it actually took the story to begin, such as The Bus To Nowhere and The Lost Lady, although I guess its to help better understand the people and victims. Overall a very good book,i recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating and Sympathetic, May 14 2004
By A Customer
What a good book! As usual, Rule's style is riveting and thorough. Her stories are tied together by the violence of the crimes, but distinct in the different locations, personalities and lifestyles of the victims, and motives of the killers. The investigations into the crimes are explored in meticulous detail. One of my favorite aspects of the book was her very sympathetic, detailed, respectful and personal portrayal of each victim - with a few deft strokes she showed each one as a real, unique person, not just another blood and guts image on the screen. This, in turn, showed the loss society suffers every time a crime of this nature occurs. Interestingly, the opening and title story of this book was not as good as some of the later ones - so if you don't care for the first story - keep reading. It's worth it.

3.0 out of 5 stars macabre true stories = depressing yet compulsive reading, Dec 15 2002
By lazza (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) - See all my reviews
'A Rage To Kill' is the sixth installment of Ann Rule's "Crime Files", and I fear the series is running out of steam. While the others in the series focus on one main story followed on by shorter stories, this book only contains short-ish (30-50 pages) stories. And so we don't have the pleasure of Ann Rule's great research and insight, as found in her single story books (eg, 'Dead By Sunset'). It is as if the author didn't want to sweat the details and simply wanted to tart up police reports, and then stuff them into a book.

Having said all this, Ann Rule does write in a very fluid style. Her books are always a fast read. And while the stories here are most definitely morbid and horrific, they are fascinating (much like viewing a road accident).

Bottom line: empty calories for the brain. But like junk food, hopelessly addictive.
