Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Bestselling author Quick's ( Rendezvous ) latest lovers are a pair of bibliophiles whose engaging qualities should help her many devoted fans overlook this work's fatal flaw: it is an unconvincing attempt to draw a parallel between a Regency romance heroine and a medieval hero on a quest. Lady Phoebe Layton's "quest" is to track down the person who killed her suitor, Neil Baxter, and to "bring the villain to justice." Neil was making his fortune in the South Seas, where he reportedly was killed by a pirate who stole an old and valuable book she gave him; rumor says the book is back in England. Ignoring the fact that real questers don't delegate, Phoebe persuades fellow book collector Gabriel Banner, Earl of Wylde, to find the rare tome and the murderer. Phoebe's growing attachment to Gabriel prompts him to consider using her to seek revenge on her father, who, eight years earlier, ruined Gabriel and drove him out of England--to the South Seas. Quick expends little effort on this revenge scheme, which is in no danger of coming to fruition; as a result this fantasy castle seems built on a foundation of sand.

Certain that Gabriel Banner, a man she admired when she was a child, can carry out an important quest for her, Phoebe Layton lures him to a midnight rendezvous and finds he is nothing like the hero of her dreams. --This text refers to the Mass Market Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Quick Masterpiece, Oct 31 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Reckless (Mass Market Paperback)
Fabulous book! This book is a winner and has everything that makes Ms. Quick such a superb writer. Her story is gripping from the first page--a young woman arranges a clandestine meeting at midnight on a lonely road with a "knight" she has known from afar for many years, and tries to engage him in a "quest" to find a medieval manuscript and thereby track down the murderer of her dead "lover/friend". The dialogue throughout is witty and clever. The characters leap to life. It is a wonderful love story which does not miss a beat. HIGHLY recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars If only there were more like these..., Jan 25 2001
By Jeanine (Vancouver, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Reckless (Mass Market Paperback)
Au contraire, "Reckless," is by far one of Amanda Quick's better novels. While she has gained a large following in the past years, it is her earlier novels like "Reckless," which inspires me to try her newer books, which, by the way always disappoint me. Who was it that praised quality versus quantity? Well, whoever said it, kudos! Quick aka JAK seems to churn out book after book, but her newer releases have just lost the lustre of her old books. At least "Reckless" centers around something different than mystic jewels and ancient arts. Jeez, the same theme gets boring after a while. On the other hand, "Reckless," deals with a defiant lady determined to make her own way in society. Although this is not a new theme, the premise of ancient Arthurian legends is a breath of fresh air. Sigh, if only there were more books like this one...

4.0 out of 5 stars Charming read
Not as quality as "Mistress," but is definitely not shabby, either. You'll love it if you like a little intelligence, wit, and sensuality in your romance novel.
