Product Description

The Second World War is about to start when Laura Oliver meets Queenie Todd. Laura is 21 and happily married. At 14, Queenie lacks Laura's confidence, and has been deserted by her good-time mother. The two become friends, but when the air raids begin Queenie is trusted to look after 2 young children, and the three of them are evacuated to a small town on the coast of Wales. About the Author

Maureen Lee was born in Liverpool and had numerous short stories published and a play professionally staged before her first novel was published. She is an RNA winner, and writes full time.

I have just finished this book. It is very good and keeps you interested right from the start. I felt a bit let down in parts re the story line regarding certain characters but generally it is a good story. At first it seems to be the story of Laura who you just love but as the story continues the main character becomes the character of Queenie. I thought Queenie started out with great strength considering her dreadful childhood. Later on though I thought she lost some of her spunk. Nevertheless it is a good read and I would recommend this book.
