Patricia Wentworth wrote over seventy novels, but none more popular than her Miss Maud Silver series. In this one, Miss Silver, the owner of a private detective agency, is called upon to look into the attempted poisonings of Lois Latter, a selfish, bullying woman with many enemies. When Lois is actually murdered, everyone, including her husband, his extended family, and the household staff, is suspect. Diana Bishops voice captures the coolly professional Miss Silver as she knits her way through the investigation and unravels the complex motives of all involved. Bishop does creditable renderings of all the characters, especially Miss Silvers sometimes colleagues, Chief Constable Randal March and Chief Investigator Ernest Lamb. Her performance makes Wentworths cozy whodunit a worthwhile listen. S.J.H. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine--
