From Library Journal

There's a little discord in this latest title on Melody Logan, celebrated in the best-selling Melody and Heart Song: her mother might still be alive.

Book Description

Melody Logan had only just found a safe harbor when a new storm set her adrift all over again....

Melody had always believed her mother, Haille, and dear stepdaddy had died in tragic accidents -- that's why she'd come to stay with her secretive Logan relatives on Cape Cod. But then a friend recognized Haille's picture in a catalog and kindled Melody's hopes. Maybe her mother hadn't perished in a fire in California after all, but was in some desperate trouble that kept her out of reach....

Melody's dream of finding her mother seemed as flimsy as the scrap of paper that was her only clue. And despite the pampered life Melody was offered as a guest in a Beverly Hills mansion, nothing could soften the blow of the moment she stood face-to-face with her mother and saw her eyes turn dark and cold as stones. Melody knew there must be a reason why her mother pretended at first not to recognize her -- and why she'd even faked her own death. Though Melody's beloved Cary beckoned from Cape Cod, she felt in her heart that her mother needed her now more than ever. And beneath her mother's unkept promises and tattered fantasies, Melody hoped to unearth the truth about her own past, and find her way to a safer, better place...where she could embrace a bright new future of her own. --Ce texte provient d'une édition qui n'est plus publiée ou qui est non diponible.

2.0étoiles sur 5 Not bad, considering the author's been dead for years., Janv. 11 2004
As far as "V.C. Andrews" or rather, her ghostwriter's books are concerned, this one was pretty good. Unfortunately, if you've read any V.C. Andrews series, you've read them all. She seems to have some kind of fixation on incest that I really don't understand, it must have something to do with her childhood, not that I'm particularly interested in the details. So if you're in the mood for light reading and don't have a problem with incest or corny romances, then this book should suit you fine. Otherwise choose between a semi-pornographic "romance" novel or a book with an actual interesting plot, and don't waste your time straddling fences.

3.0étoiles sur 5 Still my favorite series - - so far, Jui 24 2003

This book started off so well. I was anxious to find out who Melody's dad was, and how meeting her mother went. But there were a few things that determined my decesion on giving this book 3 stars.
When Melody says to Cary about their relationship: "We're distant enough cousins, so it doesn't matter." I was like WHAT! They are like 3rd cousins! That's exactly what it says.
I was also getting tired of people saying how great and beautiful Melody was. And how she has such an effect on everybody who knows her. For example. Kenneth. When we first meet his character he was the dedicated artist. Bound and determined. Then Melody walks into his life and--BAM! She completely changes him.
Why do most, if not all, VC Andrews 'villians' loose their memory? Can't they find another illness? Or some other tragedy. I know that whenever I start a new series that the old, bad person is going to eventually loose their memory.
I didn't like the end. It was confusing at first. It really had nothing to do with Melody. But I'm still enjoying this series so far. I'm usually so sick of the main character after the 3rd book. And the way it looks the next two don't even involve Melody.
