Product Description

Wallie Smith can feel the pain. He goes to the hospital, remembers the doctors and the commotion, but when he wakes up it all seems like a dream. However, if that was a dream how do you explain waking up in another body and in another world? Little Wallie finds himself in the physique of a barbarian swordsman, accompanied by both an eccentric priest babbling about the Goddess and a voluptuous slave girl. Is this a rude awakening or a dream come true? What in the world will Wallie do now that he's found himself stranded in a strange realm? Well it just so happens that the Goddess is in need of a swordsman. It won't be easy but if he succeeds he will have everything he wants. If he doesn't, things could get ugly. Wallie is reluctant but sees his chance. If only he had the faintest clue as to the adventure he is about to unleash! If only he could imagine the forces that will be out to vanquish him!

Ingram

Wallie figured it was fever when he awoke, not in his hospital, but in the body of a brawny barbarian. A swordsman of the seventh rank, Wallie was now the master of a beautiful slave girl and a cunning blade. His mission: to serve a Goddess--even though he had never fought before! 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, but a reprint, Jul 10 2009
By Jennifer Bankier (Halifax, Nova Scotia) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I agree with the other reviewers that this trilogy is excellent, like all Duncan's work, and recommend it highly to new readers. However, those of us, like me, who began reading Duncan's work in the 1980's, may after 20 years require a reminder that this trilogy is a reprint from the late 80's. (Fortunately I have a database of my SF books and was able to check: I had forgotten the titles until I did so and almost ordered a second set.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Best series,, Mar 25 2006
I've reread this series more than almost any other. The premise is a little cliche but well executed. Man gets sucked from our world by a god and put into the body of a master swordsman. I mean really, what boy doesn't dream of that at one time or another.

By the end of this book, Shonsu or rather Wallie Smith has gotten over his disbelief and taken charge. Now that he's accepted this is real, he can get down to the work demanded of him, like cleaning out the temple of the riffraff swordsmen and jputting honorable ones.

Excellent all way around!!

If you like books like this one, might I suggest another I've recently come across. The Unsuspecting Mage by Brian S. Pratt. It's another fantasy adventure sure to please. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Science fiction at its finest, Jan 1 2002
By John W. Crockett (Huntington Beach, CA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Dave Duncan does a masterful job of creating an entirely different world, complete in every detail: rituals, customs, religion, and business. No detail is missed. The three books contain a single story of swordsmanship, bullying, battle, and even a bit of mystery and romance. I recommend this series of three books to anyone who has even a small imagination and is entertained by the science fiction genre.
