Gr 5-8-While there are a number of print sources for the amassers of baseball cards and such, this appears to be a "first" for NASCAR collectibles. Owens's conversational text covers a plethora of memorabilia, from die-cast models to cereal boxes to signed chunks of race-car debris. The author's advice could be invaluable to novice collectors. He includes sample letters for uncertain correspondents; addresses of fan clubs, race shops, collectible manufacturers, and museums; and suggests books, magazines, and Web sites. Glossy full-color photos are scattered throughout. This title should open new avenues for NASCAR lovers, and will save the uninitiated a good deal of effort-and money.

Collecting Comic Books (1995), turns to the popular world of stock car racing in his latest guide for young collectors. The collectibles discussed include die-cast, miniature replicas of race cars, cards and posters featuring drivers, and even used lug nuts, bits of tire, and scrap metal from cars. Full of ideas, yet practical, the book advises collectors on matters from bargaining with dealers at card shows to writing to sponsors for giveaways. Appendixes include an extensive glossary and lengthy lists of fan club addresses, race shops, collectibles makers, and motorsports museums. Clear, colorful photographs of stock cars, drivers, and collectibles illustrate the book, which is designed to please young racing enthusiasts.
