Of the four Galactica books I've read based on the Sci Fi Channel series, (Mini-series adaptation, Cylon's Secret, Unity being the others) Peter David's Sagittarius Is Bleeding is the only one that captures the essence of the characters and the show. Rather than feeling tedious and plodding, like the other books, this story is a breeze to read. David knows his characters, and writes well for them. After reading the first two Galactica books, I had thought "If only they'd taken as much care with these as they did the television series itself." SiB gave me hope that they had - and Unity took that hope away again. If you're going to read a new BSG novel, this is the one!
