Product Description

In the endless war between East and West, oil has become the ultimate prize. Nuclear-powered subtugs brave enemy waters to tap into hidden oil reserves beneath the East's continental shelf. But the last twenty missions have never returned. Have sleeper agents infiltrated the elite submarine service, or are the crews simply cracking under the pressure? Psychologist John Ramsay has gone undercover aboard a Hell Diver subtug. His mission is to covertly observe the remainder of the four-man crew-and find the traitor among them. Sabotage and suspicion soon plague the mission, as Ramsay discovers that the stress of fighting a war a mile and a half under the ocean exposes every weakness in a man. Hunted relentlessly by the enemy, the four men find themselves isolated in a claustrophobic undersea prison, struggling for survival against the elements . . . And themselves. A gripping novel by the legendary author of Dune .

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book, new title and cover., Dec 1 2008
By Ryan P. Lenethen "DarthVain" (Canada) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
OK first of all I am a big Frank Herbert fan. I have read all his books. ALL of them. So when I saw this I got excited. I thought maybe a la Tolkin perhaps Brian Herbert found some notes and put together a lost book. However this is not the case.

I have read this book 3 times. Twice accidentally as I forgot I own it and have read it previously. Anyway it happens, I read enough of the same genre (Fantasy and Scifi) that occasionally I will get some deja vu reading, and after a chapter or two I will realize that I have already read the book in question.

This is bad enough on its own, but it is compounded by publishers re-publishing the same books every couple of years with new cover art, I swear to just confuse me into buying it again! Now the worst offense is to change the cover art, AND the title of the book! How the heck am I supposed to know if I have read it or not unless I read the blurb, and even then only of the blurb is good.

Anyway this is an old book, by Frank Herbert, which is really called "UNDER PRESSURE" and IS worth a read. I certainly liked it. It is not his best work, but I would recommend it none the less.
