Product Description

For as long as she could remember, Jane Stuart and her mother lived with her grandmother in a dreary mansion in Toronto. Jane always believed her father was dead--until she accidentally learned he was alive and well and living on Prince Edward Island. When Jane spends the summer at his cottage on Lantern Hill, doing all the wonderful things Grandmother deems unladylike, she dares to dream that there could be such a house back in Toronto...a house where she, Mother, and Father could live together without Grandmother directing their lives--a house that could be called home. --Ce texte provient de la Paperback édition.

About the Author

Lucy Maud Montgomery was born in Clifton, Prince Edward Island, in 1874. Educated at Prince Edward College, Charlottetown, and Dalhousie University, she embarked on a career in teaching. From 1898 until 1911 she took care of her maternal grandmother in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island, and during this time wrote many poems and stories for Canadian and American magazines.

Montgomery’s first novel, Anne of Green Gables, met with immediate critical and popular acclaim, and its success, both national and international, led to seven sequels. More autobiographical than the books about Anne is the trilogy of novels about another Island orphan, Emily Starr.

In 1911 Montgomery married the Rev. Ewan Macdonald, a Presbyterian clergyman, and they lived in Ontario, where he was the pastor of parishes in Leaskdale and, later, in Norval. They retired to Toronto in 1936.

Lucy Maud Montgomery died in Toronto in 1942.

5.0étoiles sur 5 An Absolutely lovely book, Aoû 28 2008
Par Reyna (The Netherlands) - Voir tous mes commentaires
This review is from: Jane Of Lantern Hill (Paperback)
Being introduced to Lucy Maud Montgomery by reading the Emily series, my interest to her other books grow terribly after I finished Emily Quest. After reading 3 books of the Anne series (And absolutely loving it) I decided I would like to read something about an other character for a difference. I picked Jane of Lantern hill and I never regretted it.

Sadly enough, this book wasn't available in my own country, the Netherlands. So I had to import it from Canada. It was quite expensive for me, but every single cent got paid back by the wonderful stories about Jane Stuart her life. Jane is special in her own way, I can't even explain -why- I like her so much, I just love her the way she is. Of course, almost every single character in this book was simply charming. But after reading 7 books from Lucy Maud, I've gotten used to this matter.

Jane really has gotten a place in my heart. I know I'll read this book a countless more times in my life. And knowing I loved this book just the same or maybe even more then the others I read. I'm sure every single Anne, Emily or simply Lucy Maud fan, should buy and read this book as well.

5.0étoiles sur 5 Realistic and Beautiful, Juil 23 2008

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Jane Of Lantern Hill (Paperback)
This is one of my favorite books by L.M. Montgomery. She is a fantastic author and it really shows in this book. Jane, a young girl, has gone to PEI to stay with her dad for the summer. The book describes Jane's experiences both living with her Dad and also her Mom in Toronto. As well, it clearly describes what Jane feels.

This book is simply grand! While reading you can so clearly see what is going on in the story. L.M. Montgomery's writing is very vivid.

5.0étoiles sur 5 Saving the Best for Last, Juil 11 2004
Par Un client
This was L.M. Montgomery's very last book that she's ever written during her lifetime. I own all of Montgomery's books, and after reading them over and over again, I have to say that this book is the best of her writings (right after the Anne of Green Gables series, of course...). I highly recommend this book, and encourage you to read it, for it shows what kind of inner strength and courage one can possess. Additionally, I recommend all of Montgomery's books to read, for being an avid fan, her books can teach us many lessons that we ourselves can apply during our lifetime.
