Product Description

Sixteen million mutants dead - and that was just the beginning! In one bold stroke, writer Grant Morrison (All-Star Superman, Batman) propelled the X-Men into the 21st century, masterminding a challenging new direction for Marvel's mutant heroes that began with the destruction of Genosha and never let up. Regarded as the most innovative thinker of the current comic-book renaissance, Morrison proceeded to turn the mutant-hero genre on its ear. Gone were the gaudy spandex costumes - replaced by slick, black leather and an attitude to match. Now, his entire Eisner Award-nominated run on New X-Men is collected across three titanic trade paperbacks! Collects New X-Men #114-126, and Annual 2001.

3.0 out of 5 stars E is for unEven, Jul 26 2008
By Michael Emond "Michael of the North" (Sudbury, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Some other reviewers on amazon.com have summed up my feelings on this book. Morrison does a nice job of creating a full story arc with a very satisfying conclusion centering on the rise and fall (?) of Cassandra Nova. His weaknesses in writing are the fact there are no true character moments in the book and I really wish someone could write Scott Summers the way Chris Claremont and John Byrne did in the glory days of this title - as a strong, efficient leader. Grant has some inventive ideas and is fantastic at plot - but reading the book I felt it was cold. I didn't feel the sense of family and friendship I did when I loved this book in the 80's.
Now on to the art: Quitely's sections are excellent. I think his early issues are a bit sloppy but he shines in the later ones he does. Ethan Van Sciver is also a very solid artist. Nothing fancy but consistent and strong. However (to quote another reviewer who sums it up perfectly) "Igor Kordey's sections are very bad. Very, very bad. Good Lord, are they awful. The layouts are cluttered, the pacing is off, and the character depictions are downright lazy." His art alone ruined this graphic novel for me. Half of me wants to see the future volumes in this set but half of me couldn't stand to read one more issue with this man's art in it.
It is a shame too. I can see what all the fuss about this run was about. But I felt cheated by art that should never have made it into such a premiere title.

4.0 out of 5 stars New X-men is great, May 11 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: New X-Men, Vol. 1 (Hardcover)
This is the start of Grant Morrison's take on the X-men. This graphic novel reprints New X-men #114-126 and New X-men Annual 2001. This book follows the X-men Cyclops, Beast, Phoenix, Wolverine, and Emma Frost. Tey face off against Cassandra Nova, Professor X's evil twin, the U-men, and the Shi-ar Imperial Guard. This novel also introduces some new x-men (imagine that!) like Xorn and Beak. The only bad side to this book is that some of the art isn't as great as I'd like. Some art is great, like Frank Quitely but others aren't. Well I hope this helped make your decission about this novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars New X-Men Vol.1Hardcover Ed. : Reprints 114-126 + Anual 2001, Mar 10 2004

This review is from: New X-Men, Vol. 1 (Hardcover)
Amazon said it collects the stories found in New X-Men Vol. 3 and 4. IT'S A MISTAKE!!! They didn't update the info correctly.

It really collects the stories found in New X-Men book 1 (E is for Extinction), book 2 (Imperial) and also reprints the New X-Men Anual 2001. At the end is the Grant Morrison's manifesto to Marvel proposing the New X-Men changes (new clothes, new characters like Cassandra, etc)

There are good pencilers in this book... you'll be absorbed by this book. I hope some of this will be in a movie.

It's a great book. It's better than buying book 1 and 2. Excellent presentation! Excellent stories!
