Product Description

From Amazon.com

Antichrist. The very word send shivers through us. And Nicolae Carpathia certainly does not disappoint as Antichrist. Nicolae is the third book in Left Behind series written by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins, and is preceded by book one, Left Behind, and book two, Tribulation Force.

Nicolae Carpathia becomes the focus as he continues to consolidate his power, unifying political states ("Global Community"), media ("Global Community Network," "Global Weekly"), and religions ("Enigma Babylon One World Faith") under a Nicolae-appointed supreme pontiff. Nicolae himself is grand potentate of the global community.

Our heroes, pilot Rayford Steele and journalist Buck Williams, along with the rest of the Tribulation Force, continue their struggle to survive and protect their families in the midst of global war and destruction. They have come to recognize Nicolae Carpathia to be the Antichrist prophesied in the Bible, and to them it comes as no great revelation that this man, who presented himself as a charming and benevolent leader, has been unmasked as a ruthless and cruel tyrant, manipulating people and events to serve his own ends. And his ends are undoubtedly evil.

It becomes apparent that the chaos and turmoil created by Nicolae are the fulfillment of John's prophesy of the seven seals as recorded in the book of Revelation. And it becomes also apparent they are now facing the sixth seal, a great earthquake which is sometimes called "the wrath of the lamb." This upheaval of the earth, with its accompanying death and destruction, is familiar apocalyptic imagery: a blood-red moon, a sun turned black, and the stars falling from the sky. And the Tribulation Force discovers that these incredible descriptions turn out to be not so very far from the truth.

Who survives? How? What does Nicolae have in mind for the world? Readers of the first two books should not be disappointed with this third installment to this chilling tale. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

From AudioFile

Tom Swift meets Norman Vincent Peale. In the third installment of a quasi-religious fantasy/adventure, a team of modern true believers battles Nicolae Carpathia (as in the Carpathian Mountains, Dracula's bailiwick, get it?), whom they believe to embody the Antichrist. Here, Armaggedon draws nigh as Carpathia sets off WWIII. Richard Ferrone throws himself into the melodrama with an appropriately childlike ingenuousness. He reminds one of a Boy Scout telling his pals a thrilling tale before the camp fire. 5.0 out of 5 stars Non-Stop, Edge of your seat thriller, Jul 18 2004
By Richard Kulltrain (Norfolk, Virginia, USA) - See all my reviews
The third installment of the Left Behind series starts at the begining of the tribulation. After the start of World War III, the Tribulation Force struggles for survival as Nicolae Carpathia (The Antichrist) unleases his war machine against those who oppose the newly formed Global Community (formally the UN). Adding a particularly good twist to the story. two of the core members of the Tribulation Force are now employed buy the Antichrist creating a high amount of tension that serves to be very infomative for the reader. The members of the trib force in this third installment are now without a leader due to their previous leader dying under mysterious conditions. The book escalates and proves to be a page turner that you will find difficlut to put down. Action and suspense are ever present, as the reader is taken to locales such as Iraq were the throne of the antichrist is, Chicago, and a harrowing escape/rescue from Isreal which is perhaps some of the best suspenseful writing of our time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wayyyy better than Tribulation Force!, Jul 16 2004
By "johancornelius" (Marysville, MI) - See all my reviews
This is one of the better books for the "Left Behind" series. I dont know what it was but this book seemed to draw me in and did not let go. A fast read like all of them...except Tribulation Force. You won't be let down with this one unlike Trib Force.

3.0 out of 5 stars WHY NOT KILL NICOLAE NOW AND SAVE THE DAY?, Jul 11 2004
By Jeff Howard (South Dakota) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The God Squad is back to (sort of) fight evil in NICOLAE. Someone else reviewed it better than I ever could when they said there was absolutely no excuse for stretching this story out over 12 novels. I could solve the problem of Nicolae Carpathia in one easy move. (See below for my brilliant spoiler.)

But first, lets review: Rayford Steele is Carpathia's pilot. Steele, his useless wife Amanda, his useless daughter Chloe, and his son in law, Buck Williams comprise the Tribulation Force (God Squad). They are convinced that Nicolae Carpathia is the Antichrist. That's pretty apparent. NC has pretty much taking control of the whole world, though the hate machine that is the Middle East is not factored in real well. I guess if you're Islamic, you don't believe that Jesus is the Messiah, so they were all left behind.

Anyway, there is a lot of hand-wringing and praying going on because except for Buck in Israel, rescuing Tsion Ben Judah (the man who broke the news to the world that as a Jew he was now convinced that Jesus was the Messiah); and Steele flying around with Nicolae eavesdropping on his conversations in the back of the plane, there is not a whole lot of action going on that the characters of this book are actually participating in.

Though the story is very interesting and I will continue to read the series, here's an idea: If Steele is Nicolae's pilot and Nicolae is the Antichrist, bent on raining death and destruction on everyone on Earth, why doesn't Steele just crash the plane into the ocean, kill Nicolae and save the day?

Probably because then LaHaye and Jenkins wouldn't be able to rake in more cash and have Jesus reappear in book 12 to defeat Nicolae.
