Book Description

New York Times bestselling author Linda Howard takes white-hot passion to the limits . . .

Michelle Cabot has inherited her father's Florida cattle ranch -- and a mountain of debt. To make matters worse, a huge chunk of that debt is owed to the neighboring rancher, her nemesis John Rafferty.

Nothing shocks Rafferty more than discovering that the spoiled, pampered rich girl he once despised is painstakingly trying to run the Cabot ranch herself, working the land with desperation the only thing she has left. He likes this new Michelle and decides to make her his woman. What he doesn't know is that underneath Michelle's cool, polished façade lies heartache, secrets and the raw determination to live life as her own woman. But Rafferty isn't about to take no for an answer. --Ce texte provient de la Mass Market Paperback édition.

5.0étoiles sur 5 Can't go wrong with Linda Howard!, Juil 1 2004
Don't listen to "Heartless" review. This book was great! Linda Howard has a unique writing style. She gives us a story through the characters in such a way that you see they're views, even when their misguided and confused.

Example: (Not a spoiler) No, he didn't really believe her when she was run off the road, but she wasn't very insistent because she was assuming he wouldn't anyway because of her own past experiences. And he wasn't trying to be cruel. He just assumed she wasn't sure because of being so shaken.

Her Heroes are very "alpha," but only because they are so passionate. Always trying to hold on to these women and convince them to share their lives with them. Who wouldn't love the passion and persistence of men like Linda Howard's?

Yes, it was obvious who the bad guy was, and in a way, I don't think that it was supposed to be a great mystery, at least not to the reader. She gives us insight through her characters to the mistakes we all make by making assumptions without communication. You can't go wrong with Linda Howard. She's a great author.

2.0étoiles sur 5 Heartless, Avril 10 2004
Par Un client
The book was too dated and predictable for me. It was obvious that the stalker was the ex-husband.Obvious, that is, to everyone but Michelle and John.I also found John somewhat lacking in the romantic touch. (...)
He also doesn't seem to like her very much. Even when he finds out that she's just a loveable bundle of neuroses, he still thinks she lied about having been run off the road rather than own up to wrecking his car, but he magnanimously forgives her. Big of him.So I was singularly unconvinced when he fell in love with her, despite some pretty good sex scenes.
I think LInda Howard's come a long way, but in this fairly early book she couldn't seem to make her heroes both sexy and acceptable human beings.

4.0étoiles sur 5 A Little Suspense with Your Romance? 4.5 Stars!, Aoû 12 2003
Par Tracy Talley "Book Addict" (Boston, MA USA) - Voir tous mes commentaires
(REAL NAME)
I wasn't expecting the suspense in the story. I was under the impression this was a straight love story; vintage Linda Howard, but nope, she brought in a bit of her trademark suspense she is famous for today.
It's not riddled with suspense like her newer books, but it has enough to keep you wondering and a little on edge. Mainly a love story peppered with suspense.
The heroine Michelle was great. She is strong and interesting and the typical Howard heroine. Inheriting her father's ranch in Florida is not her idea of a great time, especially when she finds out it has been so deep in debt that it may never survive year's end.
The main problem? Most of that debt is owed to the broody neighbor John. John is a hard working rancher that turned nothing into an empire but also hates Michelle's guts. A few years older than her, he detests the ground she walks on.
Ten years have gone by since they last saw one another, yet the hate and anamosity has not disapated, its grown. Grown into something too big for the both of them to handle.
Michelle must swallow her pride and hate and offer John something to save the ranch in place of the debt since she cannot pay it. But what John has in mind just fans the flames.
Hate turns to unbridled passion and need, but something is lurking in her past that threatens to come to light. Can she stop it in time? And will John put aside his anger with her enough to honor her father's friendship over the years enough to give Michelle a break?

5.0étoiles sur 5 Good Intense Romance
Just what I'd expect from Linda Howard. Lots of passion and possesiveness from the hero (which I love). If you like any of her earlier novels you will enjoy this one as well.

1.0étoiles sur 5 I want a mystery
It was not much a story. The male character, John, did very little but be turned on by her. Other Linda Howard's books that I read had much more of a mystery story to them.

What's the copywrite date? 1986? I checked it out as a paperback at the local library. The heroine is not much of a hero.
