From School Library Journal

Grade 6-10-Graduates of the Cam Jansen or Something Queer series of detective stories who are too young to move into adult who-dunits or who have weak reading skills make a likely audience for this addition to Paul Zindel's P.C. Hawke mysteries. The stand-out feature of this audio version of The Surfing Corpse (Hyperion, 2001) is the narration by Jeff Woodman whose impeccable diction and enormous talent for using slight shadings of voice, accent, and tone manage to convey a different personality for every voice in the story. The plot, range of characters, and current teen language make this a book that will appeal to young teenagers whose reading tastes are not too sophisticated. The likable main characters, P.C. and his friend Mackenzie Riggs, come complete with a sure-fire personal quirk to warn of things not right that will remind readers of brace-tapping or photographic memory gimmicks from the series mentioned above. The teen characters have absolute freedom to pursue their suspicions by plane, motor scooter, and surfboard with no qualms whatsoever on the part of parents or school. A fairly gruesome crime scene early in the story is not described in any detail, but the implications are there for listeners to discern, so this might not be a good choice for readers below middle school even though the story line would make it appealing. For collections that need current teen reading for lower reading and comprehension levels, this title will work well and make entertaining listening.

5.0étoiles sur 5 The Surfing Corpse, Fév 24 2004
The Surfing Corpse
By: Paul Zindel

The Surfing Corpse is a wonderful book about two best friends eho have to work hard to solve the mystery of their classmate's murder. It is filled with twists and turns that lead you to the breath-taking ending. PC and Mackenzie use their brains, eyes, ears, and intuoition to crack the case wide open. The way that the story is laid out wraps you up in intensity to the point that you will want to listen to it all night. The author, Paul Zindel, shapes the way that the story changes as an artist does with clay. He has also written many other award-winning books. I loved the book and so will anyone else who enjoys an action-packed murder mystery!

This review is from: Surfing Corpse, The (Paperback)
For every person who likes a little twist and a mystery, The Surfing Corpse is a book that you should read. The Surfing Corpse is a book about two best friends named Mackenzie and P.C. (Peter Christopher).Their junior class trip turns into a disaster when classmate Timmy Warner plunges down a 300-foot waterfall. Soon after his funeral, Mrs. Warner's strange behaviors send P.C. and Mackenzie to Los Angeles, where they follow a twisting trail of clues involving a mysterious surfer, a murderous ghost, and some good actors. My opinion of this book is that this is a great book that will keep turning the pages until the book is finished! I could not put this book down for a second. And when Timmy Warner plunged down the waterfall, I thought for sure that he'd survive and that he jumped himself. There were a lot of times where I thought I figured out the mystery and I didn't. If you read this book it will probably happen to you to. To figure out this mystery you must read this book. If you are going to try and figure out the mystery your self, good luck trying! Therefore, this is a great book. And I think that you should read it. So. Read it!

I am reading this title aloud to my 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students. They moan and beg for just a little more everytime I tell them that we are out of time and they will have to come back next week to find out what happens in the next chapter. They love the snappy dialogue and are now borrowing every Paul Zindel book we own or can borrow from other libraries.
