5.0 out of 5 stars A very interesting book..., Jan 20 2003
By Matthew Pursley (Dallas, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Okay, we all know that there have been stories written about the Majere brothers' (Caramon and Raistlin) days as mercenaries for hire, which is how they spent the five years preceeding the Chronicles. This is the official version, written by one of the core authors of Dragonlance. It is a very good novel, detailing the combat training of Raistlin and Caramon, as well as their first battle experience as members of an army-for-hire. This book also follows their half-sister, Kitiara Uth-Matar as she takes the first major steps toward her own fate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great Dragonlance script!, Dec 5 2002
By Kenneth C. Tyburski (Danville, VA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I started my Dragonlance experience in high school, and have never lost my passion for the books. I re-read the Chronicles trilogy about twice a year, and I make the time to read the supplementary material published by Weis, Hickman, and other artists.

I really enjoyed Soulforge as a journey into the youth of one of everyone's most and least favorite characters, Raistlin Majere. The journey continues in Brothers in Arms, and we discover more pieces of the mysterious pasts of Caramon, Raistlin and Kitiara. This book brings the reader closer to those years prior to the events of Chronicles. It is a great read for those fascinated with the Dragonlance world.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, Oct 29 2002
By "szechenyi" (North Ogden, Utah United States) - See all my reviews
Any of you who are big Raistlin fans like myself, will be a little disappointed in how he is portrayed in this book. In the Soulforge and throughout the Chronicles and Legends trilogies, he is always one step ahead of everyone else. Always seems to know a little bit more about each situation than everyone else as well. In Brothers in Arms, he seems to be one step behind in everything, including casting his magic. The storyline was ok but not very entertaining, unless you like reading about military life as a mercenary. The book is really for Kitaria fans. Those of you who are fans of her character will really enjoy seeing how she begins her ascent to Dragon Highlord. The book has some good moments, but compared to what Dragonlance fans are used to reading from Margaret Weis its a little disappointing.
