It seems, at first glance, an impossible task--to create a coherent, involving audiobook out of the abridgment of the three novels in this fantasy trilogy (Powers That Be, Power Lines, and Power Play). But the talents of narrator Marina Sirtis and skillful abridgments do just that. Major Yanaba Maddock is sent to the icy colonized planet of Petaybee to recover from lung damage, the result of a terrorist attack. She finds herself befriending the citizens, who are remarkably in tune with their world, to protect her new home as she learns its remarkable secrets. With graceful, expressive narration, Sirtis creates vocal personalities that flow from a true understanding of the story. Accents convey the Celtic and Inuit heritages of the colonists; intonations capture differences in age and gender. This program truly creates a unique world, which the listener will leave only reluctantly. M.A.M. An AUDIOFILE Earphones Award winner (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
