Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

In the first book of Phillips's trilogy (The Bachelor) about the irresistible marriage-resistant Chandler brothers of rural Yorkshire Falls, N.Y., footloose foreign correspondent Roman got hooked, thanks to the ingenious plotting of his matchmaking mama. This follow-up focuses on the middle brother, Rick, a loving but broken-hearted divorcee determined to resist both mom's marriage plots and those of his admirers-roughly every single woman in town. To do so, Rick employs a counterplot involving equally commitment-shy Kendall Sutton, whom the playboy policeman rescues from a car mishap as she's fleeing her own wedding. But will the independent twosome, feigning coupledom to remove themselves from the matchmaking game, foil themselves by genuinely falling for each other? Of course. In fact, there's little in the way of surprise or suspense herein. The characters express astonishment at certain plot turns, but readers won't, as all devious deeds are broadcast miles in advance. Still, the brothers' considerable charisma makes up for many sins of style and substance. Those who like their romances fast 'n' frothy may well find this lightweight tale an appealing afternoon's diversion.

From AudioFile

Carly Phillips, an attorney who tossed away legal briefs in favor of writing sizzling romances, has become a bestselling author with her Chandler Brothers series. William Dufris, the quintessential voice actor, overlays this story with the magic of his many voices, timing, and ability to present sensual overtones that are guaranteed to curl your toes, yet keep you listening. The relationship between Rick and Kendall is born of chemistry and nurtured into sweltering romance by Dufris's inflections. Even Hannah, Kendall's emotionally damaged younger sister, becomes the poster child for teenaged angst in Dufris's able presentation. Dufris is perfect for those who prefer their romances fast'n' frothy. His reading is pure afternoon delight. 4.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Follow-Up, Feb 2 2004
By Kristen (San Diego, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This book was and entertaining read about the middle Chandler brother, Rick. He is pressured by his mother, Raina to settle down. And after having his mother throw women his way, a stranger comes to the small town. This beautiful stranger who is the niece of a deceased resident soon captures Rick's heart. They agree to have a "fake, convenient" relationship that eventually turns into saomething more. The only problem is that this beautiful girl named Kendall is just passing through town...
This story holds your attention but The Bachelor is a more entertaining read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, Sep 4 2003
By Lisa B. (Sewickley, PA United States) - See all my reviews
I picked up this book after reading all the rave reviews and I guess it must be me, because I certainly can't say I loved it. The storyline was pretty good and I really liked the characters but had enough of Kendall's constant hashing back and forth as to whether or not she could commit to staying put. That seemed to be a third of the book and it got old really fast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Left me giggling, Aug 28 2003
By Susan (Colorado) - See all my reviews
Again, this was a great love story. It had everything, love, frustration, humor, and of course sex! I will be reading The Heartbreaker next, and when I am done with that one I will be weepy to end the Chandler Brother's trilogy!
