Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

From the author of The Indian in the Cupboard comes a gleeful romp with a pair of twins: one good and one evil. "The expansive storytelling and comic exaggeration produce high kid appeal," said PW. Ages 8-12.

From School Library Journal

Grade 5-8. From the moment they are born, twin sisters Angela and Diabola are almost enough to drive their normal parents, the Cuthbertson-Joneses, to distraction. Angela is perfect. Diabola is perfectly horrid. As a toddler she kills the cat, starts a riot in the grocery store, and causes her mother to be jailed. Exorcism fails, so the only solution is containment?Diabola must be caged most of the time. Fortunately, her teachers decide her sadomasochistic drawing is the work of a genius so she is kept busy with art and relatively free of trouble. But when her father runs away in despair, her evil energies begin to grow. She pulls down the house, learns to start fires with her mind, and wreaks havoc through her telekinetic abilities. Only Angela can stop her, which she does in an epic fight of good against evil. Good wins, but somehow Angela ends up with one of Diabola's eyes?and a little bit of evil. Banks's absurd look at human nature is often bitingly funny. Diabola hates to bathe, but she likes "lying in very hot water and gnawing on hard foods like bones, so she was not as unfresh...as she might have been." No punches are pulled and Diabola's actions are not for the squeamish. But fans of the ridiculous, and of Roald Dahl, should enjoy this wicked romp.?Anne Connor, Los Angeles Public Library

4.0 out of 5 stars Angel and Devil, April 15 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Angela and Diabola (Paperback)
Its girl! It's actually two girls. Twins: Angela and Diabla. Angela is as sweet as an angel and , her twin sister, Diabla is the opposite. Diabla always throws things at Angela, but Angela still loves her anyway. Angela always want to be with be with her sister Diabla. When Angela and Diabla are together it calms diabla down.Diabla can make things cacth on fire and make buildings fall down. But when Angela is around Diabla can't do any harm to anyone. I realy enjoed this book. If you like contmporary fiction, you might enjoy Angela and Diabla.

4.0 out of 5 stars Angela and Diabola, Nov 6 2003
By Yuki (Hong Kong(China)) - See all my reviews
I've borrowed this book from the school library.Well, what I can say about this book is,it's very interesting. It is about a pair of twins. One is good(called Jill),another is bad(called Jane). But later their parents made them to be christian and the good one called Angela while the bad one called Diabola. Everyone loves Angela much and hate Diabola. When the twins grow up, they have power to do good things and bad things. Of course, the good one do good and the bad one do bad. Their power were so strong that the bad one can make people sick by using her eyes and the good one can cure them if she want. I think this book is really interesting because no book I've read have got such extreme case.

5.0 out of 5 stars A super read-a-loud, Sep 16 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Angela and Diabola (Paperback)
I read this book to my 6th grade language arts class to start the year. It allows us to discuss good-vs-evil, and to hear a hilariously funny book. We frequently stop to make predictions about what will happen next. Everytime I stop reading, they want more.
