This latest and weakest Xanth fantasy (after The Color of Her Panties ) starts off in Mundania, the series's term for the world in which the readers live. Playing the new fantasy/adventure computer game Companions of Xanth, teenagers Dug and Kim select companions from among the characters of Xanth, Dug choosing a sultry half-woman/half serpent and Kim a young Elven girl. Soon Dug and Kim find they have entered the actual Land of Xanth. Unknown to them, the demons that provide Xanth's magic are in mystic competition, using Kim, Dug and their companions as pawns. Written in a simplistic style, the novel marks the continued decline of this once-diverting series. The teenage characters are all but lifeless, while the story line, remarkably similar to that of Anthony's recent novel Killobyte , lacks not just tension but consequence. However, the legions of Xanth readers can rest assured that the book contains plenty of the punningly named animals, vegetables, people and things (such as the Ice Queen Crone and the Censor-Ship) that have become the series' raison d'etre.

Piers Anthony has done it again...amazed me with yet another spectacular read. Surprised? Of course not! This is Xanth! I just finished reading this book, as I'm reading all of Xanth straight through now instead of scattered as I previously have. This book stands out as one of the best books I've ever read, taking a standard well-loved plot and putting a new twist to it. It brings out the child in us all, while still maintaining a tad bit of adult humor. Well done, Piers. Keep it up!

This book was the very first book of Xanth I had read in the 7th grade. Then I fell in love with his[Piers Anthony] books, but this first book is and will always be my favorite.

Demons Don't Dream by Piers Anthony is basically about two Mundane teens who discover Xanth within a video game. They are led by real live Xanthians, who guide them to the treasure; the first of the players to reach the treasure receives a magic talent. Their Xanthian companions are faced with being a traitor, or one who will jeopardize the player's mission, who had selected him or her as a companion to help them achieve the goal to reach the treasure in time. Throughout the game, Dug and Kim realize that Xanth is a real place. They cross paths and befriend each other, and in the end, they would find a treasure more precious than the one they were searching for, love.

This book is my favorite book because it first introduced me to the World of Xanth. The first time I read it, I completely understood how the world of Xanth worked, well most of it. It is an easy-reader to know and be introduced to the magical world of Xanth. The defining characters of the two typical teenagers with a life crisis struck me to be a very important part in introducing the magic of Xanth to an ordinary Mundane, in that case: us. I really enjoyed it, like I was the one to plunge into its pages and play the Xanth game and discover a whole new world that could exist in the palm of my hand.

Demons Don't Dream is a really good novel to whoever loves the adventures of Xanth and who also love to dream about going there one day. (^_^) Anything is possible!

Demons Don't Dream, by Piers Anthony. This book is a fantasy book about two people who go inside this computer game, and play it as if they were really in there. They are searching for "the prize" and they do not know what or where it is. At the beginning of the game, you have to choose a companion who knows the land and can tell you most things about the magical world. The main character is Dug (Doug) an average 15-16 year old male whose adventurous attitude keeps getting him in trouble. Dug is also quick on his feet, so he manages to get himself out of his problems most of the time. Kim is the other player who is smarter then Dug, but is more interested about seeing the world then "getting prize". Kim is amazed at the world, because of all the elves, trolls, dragons, and other magical plants and animals
