Product Description

From Amazon.com

This box set of paperbacks includes the first three books in Robert Jordan's bestselling epic fantasy series, the Wheel of Time. No saga since Tolkien's Lord of the Rings has evoked such fervor among readers. In the first Wheel of Time book, The Eye of the World, Jordan introduces a world broken by phenomenal power and threatened by engulfing shadow. In The Great Hunt, our hero, Rand al'Thor, begins his epic journeys with a quest for the lost Horn of Valere, which promises to raise long-dead Heroes of Legend. And in The Dragon Reborn, Rand's destiny begins to take shape as his followers flock to him, and the world descends further into darkness. This box set is a great way to begin exploring the world of the Wheel of Time. But don't stop here, the second set awaits!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good entertainment, Nov 3 2007

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
As others have written I think these are the best three books of the series. I read the first book near when it first came out and then the others near to when they were published. I haven't gone back and re-read the series and so much is packed into the books that I can't remember all the connections and twists that relate to the newer books, but can still remember what happened in these first books. So if you are looking for something lite to read, is interesting and keeps your attention, and will take time to finish this is the series for you. The one thing I've found frustrating with the series (especially in the later books as the plot grows) is the characters never seem to communicate what is going on inside and so seem just ready to meet misfortune before... you get the point and maybe why the books are interesting to read. Will they defeat the 'Dark One' in the last book or will the world break as the 'wheel of time' turns?

1.0 out of 5 stars Extremely overrated, Mar 28 2009
I don't know how the Wheel of Time got such a great reputation, maybe I'm pickier than most, but this serie is just not fun to read.

1- Too many descriptions - Who cares about the color of someones shoes
2- Slow pacing - Why write in 800 pages what could be done as well in 300?
3- Horrible characters - Almost all of them are idiots
4- Sexism - Women are all angry and commanding, Men are bumbling idiots

Sure the writing is of a quality worthy of Tolkien but what's the point if it's not entertaining nor original? I read books so I can live in another world for a few hours and be entertained, not struggle to keep reading until something FINALLY happens.

I would only recommended this serie for people with a lot of time to kill that don't mind reading 200 pages of useless information before something important happens

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent story, mediocre editing, Feb 19 1999
By A Customer
Robert Jordan has produced a creative masterpiece, and I anxiously await the denouement to come with the final volumes. Nevertheless, inadequate editing leaves numerous minor flaws in his work (inconsistencies of plot and character; awkward and repetitive dialogue; redundancies of narrative) that keep it from achieving the pinnacle of the fiction-writer's art. Still, I would read it again: the storyline and the scope of the spiritual/moral issues with which Jordan deals are quite compelling, and his ability to create a realistic alternate world is rarely matched. Highly recommended for those who like to ponder unresolved ethical issues while at the same time being thoroughly gripped by a (mostly) great read. (See also works by Ursula LeGuin, a "writer's writer" and conscientious moral commentator.)
