5.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable older book of Robin Cook's..., Dec 31 2003

This review is from: Sphinx (Paperback)
While waiting at the ice arena last night for Ian to finish his shift (it was snowing and I didn't want him driving), I finished Sphinx by Robin Cook. This is one of his older books (1979) and is the first one of his I've read that wasn't a medical thriller. I got the recommendation from Ben Poole, and it was a good one. The story involves an Egyptologist named Erica Barton who travels to Egypt to do some translation work and to satisfy a dream to go there. She quickly gets emeshed in two murders and the trafficing of antiquities, as well as some personal issues involving her boyfriend and some mysterious people who are not quite what they seem to be.

The story moves quickly and keeps your attention. Considering I'm not really into archeology, I enjoyed this novel more than I though I would.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wanna know about Egyptian culture???, Jul 18 2004

Like all other Cook's books this one keeps you at the edge of your seats . As Erica progresses through the harsh reality of Egypt we ourselves are tranferred into the scene especially if someone like me is very fond of Egyptian history. Its a must read for all fans of Robin Cook.

5.0 out of 5 stars not a medical thriller, Jul 26 2003

This review is from: Sphinx (Paperback)
Sphinx is not a medical thriller like almost of Robin Cook's book. This book showcases his abilities in a completely different light.
The story is exciting , never boring.
The story is about a woman called Erica Baron, who is interesting in Egyptology and goes to Egypt. In a souvenir shop, she saw a murderer, and then she investigates about the murderer and because some precious object disappeared in the black market.
There are a lot of suspense and action .
Two people try to kill her, if you want to know more, read it !
All in all, it's a good book
