Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

With its hazy New Age philosophy, surfeit of tarot readings and high school gossip-fest plot, the first volume in the Mystery Date series seems aimed straight at Christopher Pike fans. While in a graveyard to mourn the death of her twin sister, sophomore Kristen captures the heart of an unusual suitor: Death himself. Attracted by "the most beautiful life force he had ever seen," Death assumes the identity of Josh March, a student athlete with "a body like spun steel, powerful and strong." The slightly goofy but not unappealing subsequent scenes involve an important football game with the school's loutish rivals; Josh's efforts to get Kristen to pledge herself to him for eternity; the nasty romantic mischief organized by scarlet-taloned Kathryn; and occultist Lynn's attempts to get Death/Josh to behave responsibly in his early incarnation. Conveniently, the principal characters take an elective in world mythology, paving the way for numerous references to Hades's abduction of Persephone and thus glossing this enterprise with a veneer of respectability. Ages 12-16.

Grieving over the loss of her twin sister in a freak accident, Kristen becomes vulnerable to the attentions of Josh, a sensual, mesmerizing young man, who promises her eternal--and unearthly--devotion. Original.

5.0 out of 5 stars Between Love and Life, Jun 30 2004
By Tina (Kentucky, USA) - See all my reviews
Cameron Dolkey, a well known author for young adults, spins a wonderful web of loss, romance, and the every day life of a teenage girl Kristen in "Love Me, Love Me Not" of the Mystery Date series. The target for this books appears to be from grades 7-10 though dont let that stop you. Any one with a heart for romance and a bit of paranormal would enjoy this book.

A young girl, Kristen, has lost her twin sister. As she mourns over the grave it sets into motion events that lead to a bittersweet end. Death falls for the living twin as she mourns and for once in his existance yearns for life. He takes the form of a young man, Josh. Its a tale of a love and loss on many accounts. The end is bittersweet however well worth the read.
