Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Simply adorable doesn't begin to describe this charming contemporary romance, the first of two books by Michaels (Someone to Love; etc.) about twin brothers Jack and Tim Trehan. Injured and retired from his baseball career at the age of 28, Jack spends his time these days endorsing products and drifting around the mansion he's never gotten around to furnishing. When his Aunt Sadie hires a decorator, Jack is all for it, especially when the pretty decorator shows up shortly after his hippie cousin leaves her infant daughter, Magenta Moon, on his doorstep and departs for Katmandu. Interior designer Keely McBride is desperate for a job and figures the commission from decorating Jack's swank suburban digs will provide the funds she needs to open her own business back in Manhattan. She'll do anything to remain employed, including caring for Jack's niece. Complications set in when Magenta Moon's mobster wannabe uncle decides he wants custody and Keely and Jack pretend to be engaged to throw off a social worker. Lively banter and imaginative characters - such as Petra, the precocious baby sitter; Sweetness, the boxer paid to throw fights; and wacky Aunt Sadie who decorates her home with plastic oddities - come together to make this witty, whirlwind narrative a delight. From Booklist

Jack Trehan is in a funk because his career as a pitcher for the NY Yankees is over and his flaky cousin left for Katmandu, dropping off her infant daughter, Magenta Moon, literally on his doorstep. Entering into this madness is Kelly MacBride, who has come to redecorate Jack's empty 15-room house. She sees the job as a means to reclaim her former life as an interior decorator in New York, but Jack tells her she can redecorate the house only if she moves in and watches little Magenta Moon. Her need to succeed motivates her, but along with the baby, she also has to deal with Jack, his twin, an eccentric aunt, a mobster-wanna-be cousin, and a genius baby-sitter who goes through a different persona every day. Kelly and Jack grow attached to the baby and each other, but career decisions could drive them apart. An entertaining read that promises to continue: Michaels has plans for Jack's twin. 4.0 out of 5 stars Good book!, May 25 2004
By Meg "icecat516" (Caribou, Maine) - See all my reviews
Another book by Kasey Michaels that is hilarious. The character of Jack is well developed, and the hilarity that ensues is not only funny but also believable. I enjoyed the second book of the Trehan brothers better, but this one was good!

2.0 out of 5 stars Hit or Miss, May 6 2002
By A Customer
Kasey Michaels books are often hit or miss....and this one I'm sorry to say is a MISS. Why? Well, you know it's supposed to be a comedy because that's what Michaels writes. But here the comedy is forced and frantic. All the characters from Cecily to Keely to Aunt Sadie all have verbal diarrhea: they run on and on and on at the mouth. What could have been a funny little monologue ends up being a long and tedious rant that runs out of steam before it finishes. The story is meant to be a farce but the reader feels manipulated. One of the only Kasey Michaels' books I enjoyed years ago was Can't Take my Eyes Off You. That was a cute, funny and romantic book. I keep giving her a "second chance" but she keeps letting me down. Sorry to be so negative but if your time is limited (like mine is) and you want to read only excellent romantic comedies, choose something by authors like Jennifer Crusie, Julia Quinn or Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Your time will be better spent.
