Product Description

From Amazon.com

Heaved off her ship in a pirate raid, Mousemaid Mariel is washed up on the shores of Mossflower. With no idea where she is, or indeed who she is, the young warrior mouse embarks on an unforeseen adventure that will take her to the very heart of Redwall and into the arms of the people who live there.

Mariel of Redwall is a captivating and magical adventure story in the Redwall series by Brian Jacques. At times gentle, but mostly packed with adventure and heroism on the grandest of scales, this tale is at once delightful and devastating in its proportions.

Jacques weaves his customary magic, taking the reader to the heart and soul of the mythical Redwall--welcoming, terrifying, magical, and at times all too real. The place, the characters, and the adventure spring to life in a bout of indefinable magic, mystery, and mayhem. An excellent book that will leave readers begging for more. (Fortunately, there's plenty more where this came from!) --Susan Harrison --This text refers to the Mass Market Paperback edition.

From Publishers Weekly

A female protagonist, Mariel the mousemaid, lends a contemporary touch to the fourth installment in Jacques's Redwall series, which narrates epic events among the animals in the manner of Watership Down.

5.0 out of 5 stars A magnificent book, Jun 1 2002
By Karla Weeks (Benson, AZ United States) - See all my reviews
Mariel of Redwall is one of the best of the 14 Redwall books created by Brian Jaques (though of course all of his books are wonderful). it has a great story filled with excitement, thoughtful riddles, and even a bit of love. The book has vivid descriptions of all the exciting events, characters, and places, and is a great addition to the Redwall series. So i give this book a 5 star rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWSOME!!..., May 2 2002
By A Customer
In the beginning, a hopeless mouse was thrown into the sea to drown. The mouse's name was Mariel, but after she hit land where Redwall stood her memory went blank. She was tied to a rope and used the rope to defend herself against a bird that attacked her. She named herself Storm Gullwacker since she came from a storm and she whacked a gull with the rope she was bound to. Eventually she made it to Redwall with some help and found her true identity, Mariel. She was determined to find and kill the one who ruined her life and to find her father, the bell maker. What she was up against was the king of sea rats, Gabool the Wild. Her friends, a mouse, a squirrel, a hedgehog and a mole, who are determined to help her on this quest, would be there when needed. Mariel is a maiden with the heart of a warrior, and her friends also develope that warrior character and became warriors. Another book by Brian Jacques is The Bellmaker, the story of the father of Mariel and the whole series of Redwall books. The mood of the book is angry and in other parts the mood is peaceful. In the beginning of the book, the setting is an ocean, later on it's a forest setting, mostly the whole book either has and ocean setting or a forest setting. The genre of the book is action and adventure, and some mystery. I personally liked this book because it keeps you wondering what's going to happen next and it has a lot of battles and rivalry. I think the kind of person that would like this book is one who likes to read about medieval times and a person that likes mystery and battles all in one. The age rating I would think is 10 and up.
