Book Description

They were masters of the darkness, searching through eternity for a mistress of the light...WOULD SHE FIND MAGIC Young Savannah Dubrinsky was a mistress of illusion, a world-famous magician capable of mesmerizing millions. But there was oneGregori, the Dark One--who held her in terrifying thrall. Whose cold silver eyes and heated sensuality sent shivers of danger, of desire, down her slender spine. With a dark magic all his own, Gregori--the implacable hunter, the legendary healer, the most powerful of Carpathian males--whispered in Savannah's mind that he was her destiny. That she had been born to save his immortal soul. And now, here in New Orleans, the hour had finally come to claim her. To make her completely his. In a ritual as old as time . . . and as inescapable as eternity. --This text refers to an alternate Mass Market Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Empowering..., Jun 26 2004
By "the_enchanted" (OH United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dark Magic (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the 4th book in the Dark Series by Christine Feehan. Although many books in this particular series can stand on its own, Dark Magic, however, cannot. In order to fully understand Dark Magic, you must read the previous 3 books which are Dark Prince, Dark Desire, and Dark Gold, because Gregori is a very complex character that is extremely well developed which is one of the main reasons that makes this book so great.

This is an overwhelmingly romantic story between the Dark one-Gregori and his lifemate-Savannah-the daughter of the prince Mikhail and Raven. As most of us already know, the male loses their ability to feel after 200 years of living and inevitably become the walking undead-vampires who are ruthless creatures that prey on not only human, but also children and women, unless they are able to find their lifemate who is able to bring light to balance out the darkness within.

Dark Magic tells the tale of Gregori, the dark one-the most powerful one, his power beyond the prince-Mikhail, and Savannah who is born to be his lifemate. Many other dark books, unfortunately, are not romances to me for the relationship between the main characters are unnatural and not well developed. Dark Magic, however, does an excellent job on the love between Gregori and Savannah. I can see the drastic change in Gregori, as he becomes a person with emotion and most of all, love, not what he was for centuries-a stoic stone who has no feelings but only the need to kill. Savannah is truly the light that guides him out of his darkness. I know that many people are disturbed by the raping scene in the beginning, but it wasn't Gregori who did it, it was the beast within him, and even though, he was willing to let Savannah kill him, and gave her a chance to escape. She choose not to let him die, and willingly brings him back to life. As the story develops, so does their love. Their bond is strong, whether physically or emotionally, they are connected as soulmates.

This book is not for everyone, it has many sexual descriptions and violence. But for people who are over the age of 15 or those who are emotionally ready, it is something that should not be missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a cool book!, Feb 5 2004
By Arial (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dark Magic (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first Christine Feehan book I've read, and it is great! I don't want to repeat the story plotlines that were already described here, but if you like an intelligent writing style, really exciting scenes and an intriguing 'other world' to enter into, then get this book! Especially if you like the Lord of the Rings and even the Harry Potter books, this adds a whole new dimension (the romance side.) Borrow it, buy it, do whatever you need to do to read it. :) I'm not at all a romance novel reader, generally preferring the classics and even some of Oprah's picks, but I became a fan instantly. The characters are super, it kept me entertained and engrossed... Some reviewers griped about the whole 'old-fashioned' views held by the hero in the book, but for me, it only added to the sizzle. LOVED IT! Can't wait to read the rest of her books!!! PS: I'm so glad she changed the covers of the books... I have a tough time with those intolerable 'bare-chested Fabios with swooning women' covers that are so typical of romance novels. The current covers are so much cooler!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Book So Far!, Sep 16 2003
By "moon77" (Alamogordo, NM USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dark Magic (Mass Market Paperback)
Okay, I need to admit something first. I am hopelessly addicted to Mrs. Feehan's Dark Series. That being said, I have read up to Dark Challenge (almost finished with it), and so far, Dark Magic has been my all time favorite! The character description of Gregori is almost breathtaking! You can really imagine yourself standing in front of possibly the sexiest Carpathian alive! From reading Dark Prince (the first in the series), I was introduced to Gregori, and I couldn't wait until he found his lifemate. Even in Dark Desire, you were with Gregori as he fought for Savanah's unborn life inside Raven, knowing she was his true lifemate. Mrs. Feehan really captures the details of San Fransisco and New Orleans, and the plot is totally captivating! I would reccomend this to anyone, but only after they've read the first three books in the series. ENJOY!
