A very powerful, beautifully written portrait of a family living on coal-mining wages in tough times - the early 20th century - in small-town south-western Scotland. Everything was tough - the lives of the miners,the community, society in general, but individually their lives can convey both the brutality as well as innate thoughtful human compassion: this we discern in Tam Docherty.
