I have read, 'For the Birds', to classrooms of children for years. For all people truly interested in environmental concerns, particularly our declining bird species, this is a marvellous story as a read aloud. Where is the old woman living next door to Samantha, better known as Phoebe Merganser, taking Samantha? Also, why has Samantha suddenly developed a hunger for insects? Phoebe takes Samantha on a migratory flight to the south and we get to read and view pictures of the many perils and positive things that can happen to birds along the way. There are references to Ontario locations as well. i.e. Pelee Island
