Product Description

Reluctant to be left alone again, each one of the cowed squatters refused point-blank to advance another inch toward the scene of unholy worship, so Inspector Legrasse and his nineteen colleagues plunged on unguided into black arcades of horror that none of them had ever trod before." - H. P. Lovecraft, "The Call of Cthulhu" Spawned from the classical horror-hunt of Inspector Legrasse, in H. P. Lovecraft's seminal tale, now his further adventures have been taken directly from the original notes of Professor William Channing Webb of the American Archaeological Association and written up for your edification by author C. J. Henderson, the dedicated chronicler who has exhaustively reported the occult adventures of Anton Zarnak, Jack Hagee and Teddy London, amongst many others. These seven tales details the epic confrontation of an unsuspecting mankind with the unimaginable horrors of the Cthulhu Mythos. After a wait of over half a century, from the combined hands of H. P. Lovecraft and C. J. Henderson, finally comes the answers to all the maddening riddles of the legendary first tale of the Mythos! www.cjhenderson.com - Your first stop for information on C. J. 3.0 out of 5 stars A bit of proofreading might have helped, Aug 19 2009
This book is intended for die-hard H.P. Lovecraft fans. The main character, Inspector John Raymond Legrasse, is the same character from Lovecraft's seminal novella, "The Call of Cthulhu." This collection of stories chronicles Legrasse's career fighting the hidden Cthulhu cult so as to prevent Cthulhu's apocalyptic awakening.

As one of those die-hard H.P. Lovecraft fans I do not regret purchasing and reading this book. However, the book is not entirely satisfying. There is nothing of the dread and dark wonder of Lovecrat's story and much more overt heroism and supernatural events. The appearance of Anton Zarnak in the story arc brings to mind Lin Carter--the charater's creator--and Carter's embellishment and expansion of the Conan character after the death of Robert E. Howard. Carter could not hold a candle to Howard and similarly Henderson cannot hold a candle to Lovecraft, not that I think that was his intention. The stories read very much like scenarios in a role-playing game campaign. Entertaining, but mostly fluff.

The most egregious crime committed in the publishing of this book is the number of typographical errors--at least one per page! Just because Mythos Books is a small press does not excuse poor proofreading!
